    3. I forgot to say that quite a few of the names on the headstones in the Auchencairn cemetery are of those who died after the person who originally set up the headstone, so we don't know who arranged for the names to be inscribed or who paid for them later. Not very thoughtful to have the person's name ignored who had arranged for the set up of the headstones originally. It would have been interesting if we knew even a snippet about him, and then wonder how he could have afforded to have such large headstones erected to begin with. The monumental masons in that area did not keep such records, drat! I have photos of two headstones of my father’s forebears who are buried in Auchencairn cemetery, Kirkcudbrightshire, with as many names as can fit on both quite large headstones. A family tree in itself. The odd thing is that the person who seemingly arranged for family names to be inscribed on the headstones is conspicuous by the absence of his own name. My memory did not fail me when I thought I remembered that I was told that families were buried on their own property in French Polynesia. http://www.travelingsolemates.com/bora-bora-behind-the-scenes/ Maisie
