Well, I suppose we should be grateful for municipal and parish cemeteries in G.B., where records of the deceased have been maintained usually (but not always) in one way or another, especially on headstones. I have photos of two headstones of my father’s forebears who are buried in Auchencairn cemetery, Kirkcudbrightshire, with as many names as can fit on both quite large headstones. A family tree in itself. The odd thing is that the person who seemingly arranged for family names to be inscribed on the headstones is conspicuous by the absence of his own name. My memory did not fail me when I thought I remembered that I was told that families were buried on their own property in French Polynesia. http://www.travelingsolemates.com/bora-bora-behind-the-scenes/ Maisie
Perhaps the 'arranger' was still ALIVE & did not not know the dote of his up-coming demise ? -----Original Message----- From: Maisie Egger via Sent: Tuesday, April 26, 2016 11:30 AM To: LANARK@rootsweb.com Subject: [Lanark] Backyard burials in French Polynesia Well, I suppose we should be grateful for municipal and parish cemeteries in G.B., where records of the deceased have been maintained usually (but not always) in one way or another, especially on headstones.
