    3. Hate to pop your bubble, Ella, but I think the address should have been Little Dovehiil, so so much for my lot being refeened by living in Dowanhill, or even Downhill. The original Hillcoat in Newcastle had his own pottery business, and then his son hopped it over the border to Prestonpans or thereabouts and started up his own pottery business. 'Tons' of Hillcoats 'germinated' all over the globe to Australia, South Africa and here an there all over the U.K. The Hillcoat name died out with my father's forebear when she married a master journeyman potter who may have been fond of tipping the elbow as he died of excess spirits coma in Coatbridge at the age of 40, leaving 10 children behind. How on earth did they survive? I think I've made note of this before, but I live like a queen compared with them and even my Ma (but just ordinary compared to plain folks here where we live in California!)
