I should have added that these unidentified bodies were only one portion of the bodies recovered as many were identified.  Most of the murdered seamen had some money in their pockets and went ashore to buy clothes, shoes, get a good meal and a drink (or 2 or 3 or more).  They were easy targets for the dock gangs.
