    3. Based on my experience with past releases, and with computer software in general, I highly recommend that you make a backup of all of your FTM files and media before upgrading. In previous releases, tree sync has caused data corruption. Had I not had a backup, I would have either lost data or spent months cleaning up what was corrupted. I would hope that MacKiev does a good job of identifying those type of problems in testing, but they are basically rewriting the sync functionality and any time that happens, there are bound to be bugs. That being said, I pre-ordered the upgrade and am looking forward to finally being able to sync from my desktop at home and my laptop when travelling to do research. If I moved to 2017 I'd get a new sync function built for 2017 only. Given my file now has 9900+ persons, and I've spent 19 years working on it, I can't afford to take chances. In my situation (which could be very different than others) I chose to move to 2017. I considered Roots Magic and Family Tree (associated with Family Search), and decided I didn't go through another complete learning curve. Another factor in my decision is how well MacKiev (new FTM owner) their 2014.1 release worked for me, including far less error situations. So, just my 2 bits and what I experienced. 3. Hi Bob The FTM2014.1 free upgrade is a separate issue to FTM2017 Only FTM2017 will synch with Ancestry or get shaky leaves hints But other versions should continue to work except synching which only worked in FTM2012/2014 anyway and far from all used it Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 27-Mar-17 4:02 PM, hiflyte wrote: > If you had a previous version 2014 FTM then you can receive a free > upgrade FTM 2014.1 from the new company MacKiev. > > Go to their website and read over what they say > > http://www.mackiev.com/offers/ftm2017/upgrade_promo_int.html?edition=ca > > I have taken up their offer and downloaded the free upgrade and it > appears to work well. > > I also elected to keep the current FTM installed until I am sure the new > FTM works. > > If you do not obtain the new FTM and you have an account with Ancestry > it will not link up any longer after a given date (?) > > > BobN

    3. Hi Margaret The main difference is that the only version of FTM that will Synch with Ancestry and I am told get the shaky leaves hints is the new FTM2017 by MacKiev All other versions will still keep working, probably for as long as you want them to (bar break downs and new computers of course) If you presently use FTM2014 it will stop synching with Ancestry but continue to work Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) On 27-Mar-17 3:48 PM, Margaret McNab wrote: > Has anyone ordered the 2017 version? 3. If you had a previous version 2014 FTM then you can receive a free upgrade FTM 2014.1 from the new company MacKiev. Go to their website and read over what they say http://www.mackiev.com/offers/ftm2017/upgrade_promo_int.html?edition=ca I have taken up their offer and downloaded the free upgrade and it appears to work well. I also elected to keep the current FTM installed until I am sure the new FTM works. If you do not obtain the new FTM and you have an account with Ancestry it will not link up any longer after a given date (?) 3. Software MacKiev introduces FamilySync™ Last year, Ancestry announced that Software MacKiev had acquired Family Tree Maker and that together we would ensure a smooth transition for users. From the beginning, our common goal was to maintain the capability to sync Family Tree Maker trees with online Ancestry Member Trees and we’re pleased to announce that we have done just that. Over the past year, we’ve worked together to co-develop a new syncing technology which Software MacKiev engineers have incorporated into the upcoming Family Tree Maker 2017. The new technology, which Software MacKiev calls FamilySync, will replace Ancestry’s TreeSync® when the new edition is released. 3. With many thanks to Irene, Jeanie KEITH b 1899 Rutherglen has been found and identified as referenced in my post of 5 March. All previous documentation including her birth gives stated name as JEANIE, well, it had been shortened to JEAN on both the marriage and death registrations to confuse the issue. I had already found a headstone in Cathcart Cemetery for a Jean KEITH who had been married to a James KENNEDY but dismissed it, that wasn't a wise choice, our Jeanie was the wife of James KENNEDY, they had married in Aug. 1926 and Jean/Jeanie died in the Maternity Hosp. Glasgow in 1929 only 30 yrs old. At this stage her sister Agnes is still on the run... :-) Thanks again Irene for helping solve another piece of the puzzle. 3. Jenny, Irene is an excellent sleuth, but even she can't find the birth records or parentage of my great-great grandfather William Clint, born Carlingwark, Kelton Parish, Kirkcudbrightshire around 1796. His great grandson, Peter Clint, did 'walkies' up to Glasgow, and that is how my immediate family have their roots in the No Mean City. There is a fantastic woman at Scotlandspeople who rummaged through the records, but came up with nothing on William Clint. The little dusty blue book on the banns of his marriage to Sarah Hyslop seemingly has disappeared off the face of the earth though I had it in my hot little hands when doing research at New Register House, Edinburgh. 'They' took umbrage at my comment that maybe it was chucked before the contents could be digitised. It is very frustrating to try to find William Clint's records as I have them for others all the way back to 1645. Now the Irish and Austrian ones on my husband's side...! Congratulations, Jenny, on filling in this particular gap in your tree. 3. Hi, all, I'm new to this list, though am on several others at rootsweb. I wondered if anyone else was exploring the various INGLIS and BROUN families in Douglas? I've Cornelius BROUN, born in 1717, who later moved to Glasgow as a weaver - he was the son of Richard Broun, mason in Douglas, and Agnes INGLIS, who seems to be a daughter of Cornelius INGLIS of Scrogtoun in Douglas. Richard's mother was another INGLIS - Jean Inglis, ale-wife in the toun of Douglas; he had sisters Barbara and Mary (who married another Inglis), and their father was probably John Broun. The Douglas OPRs start in the 1690s, but I've found some of these people in Kirk Session records (though these also start in the 1690s) and have several testaments of various Inglises, including James Inglis son of Cornelius (from 1713), and Agnes Lithgow, wife of Cornelius in Scrogtoun (from 1685), and more ... Wanted to check if anyone else was looking for these people and interested in sharing information. Best regards, Jenny
