    2. Anne Burgess
    3. William Miller was born at Myvot, New Monkland on 16 June 1806, son of James Miller and Janet McLean. As his elder brothers John and Matthew both predeceased their father, he succeeded his grandfather John Miller of Myvot (other spellings are available) in 1820. He sold the family lands of Myvot about 1829/1830. I have a note, taken from The Monkland Tradition by Thomas Ronald Miller (his second cousin twice removed) that he died unmarried in a drowning accident in 1840, but I have no more details of this. I have tried the British Library 19th Century Newspaper Collection and the British Newspapers on FindMyPast without success. Any suggestions? Anne

    3. Some of the pictures are heartbreaking of what it was like to live in some of the poorest tenement areas in Glasgow, yet with it all many who lived under such conditions harboured great nostalgia for the sense of neigbourhood that they did not find and missed when they moved to better housing in the ‘schemes.’ Such was the case with one of our neighbours who left our modern district of Swedish timber houses with three bedrooms, inside full bathroom, separate kitchen from the living area, a nice hallway with stairs to the upstairs bedrooms covered in lovely Axminster carpeting...such luxury compared with most tenement living! 3. To Margaret…If you keep your 2014 version, you will no longer be able to sync your FTM tree with Ancestry tree. There are other new features that look very interesting and will enhance your FTM experience. I have been “test driving” the new version for 48 hours. Not all the features are functional in the Beta version and some changes may still occur depending on the feedback from testers, but it does look like the new improvements are worth the upgrade. Recommend you install the MacKiev update to FTM2014.1 first, reserve a copy of 2017, then as Bob N said, sit back and wait till release. When the release is announced, they will provide more detailed information about the new features. 3. Thank you for your lovely comment Jeanette. Like many, I try to help if I know answers! The best part of the Australian ANZAC story is that the National Archives of Australia - www.naa.gov.au/ had all the WWI Soldiers records digitised and freely available to download for the Centenary of ANZAC. I haven't searched the New Zealand Archives - http://archives.govt.nz to know what is available there. Unfortunately, there are persons who think these records are only available through a 'pay to view' site, whereas not the case! I moved to the Willows Retirement Village in Winston Hills 3 years ago and haven't touched family history since. Had my DNA done through Ancestry and although I haven't put a tree up yet I'm astonished that there are trees online with people on mine. E.g. McMurdo.
