    3. Yes, thanks. That's coming up in search engines. It has one possibility in Douglas, but I think it's actually outside the town (it's an old farm) which rather defeats the purpose (when I get there, park and walk...) I'm getting resigned to having to try Lanark. Jenny On 20/09/2017 11:04, Jennifer Myers wrote: > Jenny have you checked AirB&B? > > Jenny

    1. [Lanark] A visit to Glasgow's hot spots
    2. Maisie Egger
    3. I saw this on Facebook and the contrast in the cuisine now to when I was growing up in Glasgow is unbelievable. There are so many choices now whereas in Glasgow of old, fish and chips (French fries), meat pies with baked beans, as well as sausage rolls, was the cuisine du jour...gulped down with Irn Bru, of course. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/08/31/travel/what-to-do-36-hours-in-glasgow-scotland.html The tourist season is edging to a close, but after you’ve been to the Mitchell to ferret out those who’ve gone before, keep this list of places to visit when next you take a jaunt through some of the interesting places to visit in dear auld Glesga toon. 1. [Lanark] Irish names in Lanarkshire
    2. Maisie Egger
    3. Hello, listers, A little intro to some Irish names. https://blogs.ancestry.com/cm/history-of-irish-surnames-is-yours-here/ This link could be of interest for those who had Irish forebears who settled in Glasgow/Lanarkshire Central Belt area, after the Great Famine, 1845-1852. Also, a quick overview of the causes of the potato famine which brought thousands upon thousands to Glasgow and its airts, as well as other major cities in the British Isles: https://www.britannica.com/event/Great-Famine-Irish-history This link also gives a list of common names found in Ireland, quite a few of which are shown in Anglized form. A handful of Irish names to be found on my own tree (a few through marriage): Devine, Kelly, McBride, Gribbin(en), Toall, Flynn, Ferrie, Gorman, Ireland (!), Pope (!). The ‘ton’ of others in my family are traditionally Scottish or English. My own surname Clint could very well be Scandinavian (Viking). It means a hard rocky surface, with ‘clints’ found in Midlothian and in Wigtownshire where mountaineers learn the rudiments of climbing vertically. Maisie, where the temps have been record breaking at 112oF-115oF 25 miles inland in the Central Coast area of California.
