The IGI has three children of this couple Janet, born 1771, Whitburn John, born 1775, New Monkland Margaret, born 1777, New Monkland. Quite a number of the Badallan family seem to have been baptised in Whitburn. East and West Badallan are both very close to the parish/county boundary. Anne
I am fairly new to this list and need some help. I have been noticing the posts about Shortts Parish Register, and would like to get back to the posts showing records in the early 1700s. I have tried the archives, but can't seem to make the connection. Thanks. Charlie Weaver, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA

There are several different places in Scotland named Braco or similar. The one in Perthshire is the best known. It is the largest village in the quoad sacra parish of Ardoch, which is, as you say in the parish of Muthill, and Braco Castle is a mile or so north-west of the village. The Braco in my tree is in the parish of Shotts. There are two farms still on the map: Nether Bracco and Wester Bracco, south of Hillend Reservoir a few miles east of Airdrie. There are others: one in Angus, in the parish of Lethnot and Navar; one a few miles west of Uplawmoor in what is now called East Renfrewshire; three different ones in Aberdeenshire; one in the parish of Grange in Banffshire; and one a few miles west of Dumfries. There are also variations like Bracobrae and Bracorina, and there may well be, or have been, other ones which no longer exist. HTH Anne
Hello Frank, A bit late after all the info gained, but I think you asked for Australian telephone directories - just Google 'Australian whitepages' or look at: http://www.google.com/search?q=australian+whitepgaes it covers all states. Hi Charlie (and Listers), At the moment I can't get back beyond note 12, but I'll keep hunting. for those. In the meantime, to get to all the rest, go to rootsweb.com, click on index under mailing lists, click on Scotland, click on Lanark, click on Search the Lanark Archives, type in Shotts Parish Register 1707-1855 in the subject, you should get 83 items listed. We also have STORRY and various spellings in our family tree. I have only got back as far as John STORRY who married Janet Marshall at New Monkland in 1774. One of their sons - John b. 1775 - married Mary Morton in June 1803 at New Monkland. Their daughter - Alice Jane b. about 1819 was my husband's great grandmother. If anyone has details of the family of John Storry and Janet Marshall I would love to have them, as so far, I only have two children for them, and I suspect there would be a lot more than that. Not forgetting any number of variations. I'll use Storry though all of the above do crop up in the records. My great-great-great-grandmother was Margaret Storry, who married John Wilkie in New Monkland in 1788. I have recently been delving into the Sasines and testaments, and have found that she was the daughter of John Storry of Braco (or Bracco/Bracho)in the parish of Shotts and his second wife Elizabeth Howie (also spelled Huie/Hoey etc etc), daughter of Joseph Howie of Meikle Drumgray in the parish of New Monkland and granddaughter of Robert Howie younger of Glentore. John Storry of Braco seems to have been a son of Andrew Storry of Wester Braco and Paperthills and Mary Clark. His brothers were Claud Storry, Andrew Storry of Paperthills, William Storry of Badallan and Peter Storry of Badallan. I don't have much yet on most of them, but I believe that William Storry of Badallan in the parish of Cambusnethan married Catherine Baillie. Their son John married Janet Thomson, and one of John and Janet's sons crops up as Claud Storry of Badallan. Another of their sons, William, married Janet Hamilton. I see from the Lanark List archives that there are several people interested in Storrys, and would be interested in exchanging notes. Anne You don't stop laughing because you grow old. Ken There are three, all south of the Reservoir, North, West and South all clearly visible at http://www.nls.uk/maps/joins/649.html or http://www.nls.uk/maps/atlas/thomson/470.html There are Braco's (Bracach) in most parishes. Hi Listers, I suppose its just looking at this from a modern perspective, but it seems a lot of fuss that Janet Tennent's mother Janet Jack was the niece of James Tennet's first wife (must have died). Hi Frank., Our BDM records are organised by State or Territory..and since we have only 5 States Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia and two Territories, Northern Territory, and Australian Capital Territory, it is a lot easier than having to lots of counties..Of course if you want the name of the town, in which an event happened, then finding a second source for information can be helpful.. The Telephone Book is www.whitepages.com.au I did try the website www.ancestorsonboard.com and perhaps you may be able to work out which one of the many James Campbell's may be yours..
