Hi Margaret, As a retired travel agent specializing in Scotland, I can HIGHLY recommend Prestige Tours. http://www.prestigescotlandtours.com/ I've known them since they started and have had many happy clients, as well as husband and myself, travel with them. Give them some consideration. "Let the locals show you Scotland". Looking for birth/death/parents of this Jean/Jane Brock born sometime around 1807. ~ Jean married James Blair 24 April 1829 Glasgow ~Known children - Isobel 1830, Margaret 1831, James 1833 all born Glasgow and Archibald 1835 born Barony. ~Jean died between the birth of Archibald in 1835 and 1841 when James married Grace. ~A check of Scotlands People and the LDS site show several possibilities. Hoping someone else is tracking this Jean/Jane! Thanks. Cee
Thank you, thank you....yes, this is them in the 1861....I made that reference that William was found with his mother in the 1861...in my query to the list .....but haven't found anything that I can identify since then.... I've been able to trace the other family members pretty much; I descend from the daughter Margaret. thank you so much for your attention and help on this...you've been so helpful to me before. BTW.....I made a trip over to Donegal, and then Glasgow, hoping to find something on the Quin family in Balintra...and it wasn't until I got to the Mitchel Glasgow that I found the gold mine about this family being from Balintra...and Ballyshannon AFTER I had just been there. I'll be working on this from the Donegal list. Listers, I have worked on this Quin family for years and still have 3 members lost in Glasgow somewhere that I can't account for. >From the family of Charles Quin and Ann Jane Locke, their children are: Miles, John, Ann Jean (or Ann Jane), Charles, William, Bridget, and Margaret...all born in Donegal except the last 2 girls. The three I can't find any info on: Ann Jean or Ann Jane born about 1839 William Quin or Quinn, born 1843 Bridget Quin born 1844 They are all together in the 1851; Wm is with his mother in 1861 in Govan, and other than that, I have no more info in these 3. CENSUS:1851 Census Index of Blackfriars's(College Parish)29 New Vennell St.: Charles 44 joiner, Ireland;; Ann Jean 38 Ireland; Miles 20 joiner, Ireland; Ann Jean 12 scholar, Ireland; Charles 10 scholar Ireland; William 8 Ireland; Bridget 6 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire;...this family living with Hellen Dearie, housekeeper from Ireland... I am hoping to put this family together finally. I've been lucky to find the Poor Law records of the mother, Ann Jane Locke, that has given me info on the parents of both Charles and Ann Jane. >From the Adelaide Advertiser 3 October 1917 Among recent volunteers are Lieutenant Robert W. Galbraith and Private James Galbraith, members of a family of seven sons, all of whom are serving their country. Messrs' George and Donald Galbraith enlisted in Australia, went through the Dardanelles campaign, and subsequently fought in France. The other three sons (John, Archibald & William) who remained in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland are on garrison duty.
I have army discharge papers for Corporal George MATTHIESON which I'd be happy to pass on to any descendants. George was born in Barony, Glasgow about 1835 and discharged in Auckland, New Zealand in December 1865. His intention was to return to Glasgow. Pam
Hi Pam, I don't think this George is one of my family, but as you know I collect data on Math*sons of all spellings. Do the papers give any clues as to parentage, marital status, dtae of enlistment, regiment etc? I don't see any immediate connection to a George M in my records, but if he was away in the army, he wouldn't surface in Glasgow BMDs or Censuses. Any clues?
