I was hoping to find the registers for St Marks free Protesting Church of Barony on your list Jenny, and scoured your email thoroughly. Sigh!! I have been told about the Military Barracks in Gallowgate.. I am aware that the 71st Regiment of Foot was stationed in Glasgow at least in the first decade of 1800. Does anyone know whether any other regiments served in the city of Glasgow around the same time and if so when were they there? Cheers Gay Research Names: http://www.perthdps.com/research/fie01.html

Hello Anne Janet Reid M, S, Hamilton died in New Monkland Poorhouse on Oct 15th 1859, at the time of her death she was a widow of James Reid she was aged 32. While in Scotland in March I went to the Lanark Archives to look at the New Monkland Poorhouse records ,Sad to say they only had the Register when she was signed in giving a Page number of a book that they do not have. Also there is a James Reid who died in the New Monkland Poorhouse in May 1856 but his age is given as 23 ( could this be a mistake in age) Another kind person on this list found a Alexander Reid aged 13 on the 1871 census, born in the county of Lanarkshire. He was in the Mossbank Industrial School in Springburn, Glasgow. I one time found on the 1881 Canadian Census an Alexander Reid occupation Engineer aged 29 born Scotland with a wife Naomi also 29. I cannot find Alexander on the Scottish 1881 and his occupation on his Marriage to Elizabeth was Engineer's Driller. Hope this Helps Bob

The usual reason for gaps in the baptism registers between 1843 and 1855 is that the parents involved were adherents of the Free Church of Scotland, which broke away from the Church of Scotland in 1843. Does anyone have access to the 1851 census for Calton, Lanarkshire? I received an index of this family years ago when the index was all that was available. It didn't list the birthplace of the family members, and that is my biggest interest now. I have never been able to find my people in 1841 census at all. The index listed John McIntyre, abt. 34; Margaret McIntyre abt. abt. 28; Thomas McIntyre abt. 10; William abt. 5, and John abt. 3, and maybe Francis abt. 1. Thanks, Marc Archer Lake Odessa, MI

Find the families you seek in the 1851/1861 census which will fill in most gaps. Then go for their death registration which tells you who they married and then you can back-track and fill in the rest. Cheers!!! Hi Alison I suggest you try www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. Since you know the year she was born you can get her birth certificate from them. It should show her parents names.
