This is the line of the Waddells of Stonefield to the best of my current knowledge and belief. Gavin Waddell of Cheltenham is more expert than I am and his forthcoming book may modify the older generations. James Douglas Waddell of Stonefield 1872-1915 son of James Waddell of Stonefield c 1848-1900 and Ellen Grace Martha Comfort Dart son of James Waddell of Stonefield 1825-1851 and Rachel Anderson son of James Waddell of Stonefield 1785-1842 and Margaret Paterson son of Gavin Waddell of Ryden 1744 - ? and Margaret Thomson son of John Waddell of Ryden 1713 - ? and Helen Wotherspoon son of John Waddell and Mary Waddell son of John Waddell The Martyr ? - 1679 son of John Waddell son of John Waddell 1583 - 1642. I am confident about all links back to the parentage of John Waddell b 1713, but still seek corroboration of the earlier generations. Anne
Jeanne, I have extensive Waddell ancestry so would be interested. I have a Mary Waddell b.1707, daughter of Robert Waddell and Janet Thompson of Standridge New Monkland, married to Robert or James Mochrie b., Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, son of Robert Mochrie and Jean Crawford of Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire. Marriage in 1727, New Monkland. It seems that the Mochries and Waddells must have been close even 100 years earlier. Any other information on this family? Regards, Jess Hi All, One of my forbears was Matthew WADDELL, born 1802 (Airdrie Hill) m1 Helen MOCHRIE, m2 Elizabeth STEVENSON. There are numerous James Waddells among siblings, but I haven't come across Stonefield, so this James Waddell may not be connected. Elizabeth Stevenson, born 1821 (Airdrie) was the daughter of John Stevenson and Janet Watt Steel. Regards, Janet. > > If anyone is researching the WADDELL name, I have the complete Inventory > of > the personal estate in Scotland and England of James Waddell of > Stonefield, dated 25 January 1860, Glasgow. > > > Jeanne
I also have the Inventories of: James MACARTHUR, merchant in Glasgow, died at Southcroft in the parish of Govan 17 August 1847. George HUDFIELD who died 8 May 1850. Jeanne
For those with Waddell connections there is a good outline of all the branches at www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/waddell/disc. Sheila

As far as I know at present Matthew Waddell and James Waddell of Stonefield are not related to one another, though I believe that both are related to me, so they are connected. They are quite likely to be related further back, if the evidence could only be found! Anne
Yes please, could I have a copy? I would be obliged if anyone with access to 1861 or 1871 censuses could tell me if there is a Margaret McFarlane aged 50 or 60 born Ardrishaig living with daughter Sarah aged 20 or 30 and also born Ardrishaig. On the 1881 census they are living at 73 King St Govan. Who I am looking for is the husband, who had died by 1881 I am hoping his name is William McFarlane and he would be aged 65 or 75 - if found I want to know his place of birth which I expect to be Degnish or Ardrishaig. Very much obliged .
Judy, This is an interesting chapter in Canadian history - my GGGUncle came out with the Lesmahago Society and settled near Lanark. He couldn't just set up his loom in Canada as there was no market for cloth at that time. No - he had to take up an axe and saw and a hammer and build a house and grow his own food. The Lanark soil was swampy and poor so he moved to Renfrew County (not much better), and then on to Illinois, USA. G'day Folks, I am searching for the birth/family details of a Hannah DAVIDSON who would have been born abt 1821, possibly in Douglas. She appears in the 1841 Census living with a Daniel GOLD at Dykehead in New Monkland. I have assumed that Hannah is related because Dan's mother was a DAVIDSON. TIA Bill Melbourne, Oz

I am looking for the marrage and wife's name for William McAlpine. He was born 1 April 1885, his parents were John McAlpine and Janet Milligan Wood in Scotland. In 1891 hs was living with his parents in Hamilton. He died 5 September 1929 in Kankakee, Illinois. His wife was Agnes but I don't have her maiden name. Dorothy Riegel
Thanks Jim for your reply. I had thought of that scenario but not researched it on SP and as you say the entries from Shotts you have been transcribing do relate to surname and maiden surname. Linking your post to the entries Bob found on the BVRIs the maiden surname of BEVERAGE / BEVERIDGE is correct. The Marriage... 22/06/1806 BEVEREDGE ROBERT + MARGARET BEVEREDGE FR746 SHOTTS/LANARK 655/00 0030 0210 Birth 02/11/1806 BEVEREDGE ROBERT ROBERT BEVEREDGE/MARGARET BEVEREDGE FR337 M SHOTTS/LANARK 655/00 0020 0051 Regards Jenny
Thank you Bob for listing those entries from the BVRI. I will check with Marion Fyfe of this list re the KINNIBURGH - BEVERIDGE marriage as she is from a line of KINNIBURGHs. Will do another search on SP as well, thanks again for these entries. Regards Jenny
