    1. [Lanark] Problem with wills on Scotland's People
    2. Barbara Lewis
    3. I have used Scotland's people quite a bit, downloaded and printed many documents. I don't quite understand the wills. I tried to down load one like I did the marriage, birth, census etc. and nothing happens. Do I have to order a will and have it mailed by snail mail to me? I requested for one and I paid my points and then I just didn't get it. Does it cost more then the 5 credits? Do you have any suggestions on what I should have done because I sure did something wrong? Donna

    2. Dale Vagg
    3. Hello Barbara I have been waiting to see what sort of responses you received to your request. To my amazement several years ago I found my great grandfather was born in Ireland - no county given. Not Glasgow, where my grandfather and family, including my father were born and raised. I presumed that it was Northern Ireland, because the family was protestant. And there I have been stuck ever since. I'm afraid I can't offer any advice about where you go next. But I strongly suggest you read a book called simply IRISH by John Burrowes. I obtained it on the internet. It tells a graphic story of the movement of hundreds, nay thousands of people between Northern Ireland and Scotland in the first half of the 19th century. It is very easy to read and is a harrowing tale. But I'm afraid offers no clues about your actual ancestors. Research in Ireland - compared with Scotland - is like a huge brick wall. Good luck Dale Margaret (Australia) > Hello List > > I am new to the list but have been researching my husband's family > tree for a long time. > > At the moment I am looking at the Irish branch of his family in Old > Monkland. > >> I have found part of my husband's family on the 1861 and 1871 >> Censuses in Coatland, Old Monkland. 1. [Lanark] re Wills post 1900
    2. Cherilyn Bonney
    3. Dear List Members, I have been researching for twenty years but have done very little for the last five and am therefore unsure of where to find wills after 1900. Have just registered on Scotland's People and see that the wills there are only up to 1901. Have also registered with Ancestry, Lost Cousins & Genes Reunited and on a tree in Ancestry it shows my great grandfather dying in 1965. Is it usual to get a researcher to get a will? Do they still transcribe births, marriages and deaths as well? I need some of those records the images of which are not on Scotland's People as yet. Hoping you can help, Cherilyn in Melbourne

    1. [Lanark] GREENHLAD??? CAMBUSNETHAN, 1800
    2. Genealogy
    3. Hi, does anyone know a farm or hamlet by the name of Greenhlad? A search comes up with only results for Greenhead, or Greenhead Moss which seem further south than we would have expected. However, it is feasible that the name Greenhlad became Greenhead over time, or that the record was spelt incorrectly. Thanks, Kathryn.

    1. Re: [Lanark] GREENHLAD??? CAMBUSNETHAN, 1800 - is 'Greenhead, Cambusnethan' aka 'Greenheid'
    2. G Russell
    3. Hi, 'Greenhead' in Cambusnethan Parish is the name of a very old 'fermtoun' (farm toun) , now long gone but shown on the pre 1900 Ordnance Survey maps. It was sited in what is now 'Greenhead Road' in Wishaw ( at the North Eastern end of the Town, between Cambusnethan Street and Stewarton Street, on the western side ). The site is now under 1930's housing, but is remembered in the name of the Cemetery opposite, and the road itself. It was very close to the Victorian 'Old Parish' Church site, and the early ( now demolished ) Parish School. Google maps if searched for Cambusnethan Old Parish Church should show the area ( esp. in 'Satellite' view ). Hope this helps ... G Russell Carluke, Clyde Valley, - 4 miles or so south east of Cambusnethan

    3. Hi Kathryn Have you checked http://www.scotlandsplaces.gov.uk/ Look at the 1798 Horse tax lists , there is a Greenhead but nothing else that close to it A search brings up not one mention of a Greenhlad +Cambusnethan and even a search for just Greenhlad finds nothing at all What is the source of your place name? 3. RootsWeb lists are operated using software called "Mailman," and "Lanark-bounces" is nothing more than identification for a portion of a that software at RootsWeb that sends mail to this list, and it has no other function. I also does not accept incoming mail and if you send mail to that address, it is simply deleted with no response, which is a common practice for such servers not only at RootsWeb but elsewhere as well.
