Margie An Adam LOGAN, 35, Irish-born, married and a blacksmith, is on the passenger manifest of the Cassandra in 1910 (Glasgow to St John, New Brunswick). He was on his way to Winnipeg. He did not appear to be accompanied by his family. I can't find Jeannie's death on the Scotlands People death index. I will send you the passenger manifest off-list. Hi Leonard Unfortunately rootsweb lists do not accept attachments, although the rootsweb boards do As an alternative you could post on a site such as flickr http://www.flickr.com/ (free) And post a link to them Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Hi Ella and Jim, > > As an aside about Shotts Iron Works. Hi Ella and Jim, As an aside about Shotts Iron Works. The famous railings that used to stand in front of Hamilton Palace were made at Shotts. They were a work of art and survived two world wars (when everyone had to donate their railings for the war effort) but were taken down in the early 1970s when the M74 motorway was being built! It's called progress. I've tried to attach 2 pictures, one of a tramcar with the palace railings behind, the other is a close-up of part of the railings showing the exquisite workmanship. If they don't appear send me an email and I'll send them on. Ella, if you plan a trip over this year, pack some sunshine! All the best, Jim Leonard, Motherwell.

Hi I was prompted by Jim Bundy's email with transcriptions about people involved with Shotts Iron Works To mention Summerlee Heritage Park at Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, sometimes called "The world's noisiest museum". The aim of the Museum is to preserve and interpret the history of the local Iron, Steel, Coal and engineering industries and of the communities that depended on them for a living. http://www.monklands.co.uk/summerlee/ Summerlee is set in 22 acres based around the site of the nineteenth century Summerlee Ironworks. There is also a video show to be found at Rampant Scotland website/ http://www.rampantscotland.com/video/video_index.htm Cheers Ella Ross
Am looking for any information on the above named couple, not provided in this message. Adam LOGAN was born in Ireland about 1874 to Robert LOGAN and Elizabeth BALLANTYNE. They were married 15 April 1903 in Glasgow. Adam was a Journeyman blacksmith. Did they have children? Did they remain in Glasgow or emigrate? Jeanie was my second cousin! Thanks. Margie

The cost of purchasing an English certificate on-line is about to rise from £7 to £9.25, so you should perhaps get your order in quickly. It makes our Scottish certificates seem very reasonable. Yes Pam a timely reminder They go up on the 6th April The difference with the Eng/Welsh certs is that you can look it up in the index and have a reasonable chance of getting the right certificate, with scotlandspeople you can spend almost as much trying to find the right entry before you can buy it ! But then if they made the index more searchable they wouldn't make so much would they ;-) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) The cost of purchasing an English certificate on-line is about to rise from £7 to £9.25, so you should perhaps get your order in quickly. Hi again Deaths should be registered in the name they used, which may not be the married or maiden name just to confuse the issue but the vast majority would be in the married name for a lady unless they had divorced and changed their name back as some do these days The full index reference for the middle named Hunter one is as follows Name: Elizabeth Hunter Maxwell Birth Date: 3 Sep 1933 Death Registration Month/Year: Oct 1997 Age at death (estimated): 64 Registration district: Hammersmith Inferred County: London Register number: 6B District and Subdistrict: 2311B Entry number: 70 I have just checked for a MAXWELL mariage to an Elizabeth GALLOWAY on scotlandspeoples index, there is just one in 1955 I then tried added the Hunter and bingo So I think you can safely say the above should be your lady You can order online here http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Register first and look for the tick box "with GRO reference" (or words to that effect) Its good you know the date of death as that may be required on so recent an event Checking her birth should find the birthdate if you need to Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > The Elizabeth Hunter is a likely answer. Hello. I am wondering if anyone has a copy of a will for John HAMILTON of Lesmahagow, maybe from Scotland's People: HAMILTON JOHN 05/07/1748 IN CAMINGHILL, PARISH OF LESMAHAGOW TT LANARK COMMISSARY COURT CC14/5/17 HAMILTON JOHN 14/11/1749 IN CAMINGHILL, PARISH OF LESMAHAGOW EIK LANARK COMMISSARY COURT CC14/5/17 HAMILTON JOHN 26/02/1754 OF BANGOUR TESTAMENT DATIVE AND INVENTORY EDINBURGH COMMISSARY COURT CC8/8/115 These are but three possibilities that might match for me, and I'd like to figure out a little more about them before I continue. Thanks, Mark
Hi Jeanette Then we have a slight problem, in that there are four with a first name Elizabeth and surname MAXWELL None are in Berkshire Only two registered in October , none November There is a Kathleen Elizabeth b1909 and an Elizabeth Hunter b1933 Hence my question about the birthdate as it can help to sort one from another Let me know if either of the above are yours or if you have her birthdate Could she be registered under another name at all? (I tried GALLOWAY) Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Thank you, Nivard. The name is Elizabeth (Galloway) Maxwell d. 18 Oct > 1997. > She was in hospital, but home address was Maidenhead, Berks. Hi Jeanette The offer is still open, I have access to deaths registration indexes from 1837 to 2005 The later registrations usually record the birthdate hence my mention of it A death should always be registered where is occurs, not where they live or originate , burial of course is a different matter Nivard Ovington in Cornwall (UK) > Thanks to you all for your help. The Elizabeth Hunter is a likely answer. Her husband, David Maxwell, was born 1932. She did use BETTE instead of Elizabeth. Would the death be listed in married name or maiden name? Married = Maxwell, Maiden = Galloway. I don't know where the hospital was, but not real close to Maidenhead (I was an American in London!!!) Does any of this help? I've e-mailed her brother but he is slow in responding. Many thanks for caring. Thank you, Nivard. The name is Elizabeth (Galloway) Maxwell d. 18 Oct 1997. She was in hospital, but home address was Maidenhead, Berks. It may have been a cancer hospital, but I don't know where it was located.
