Hello I am still seeking information on the family of James Reid and Janet Hamilton who married on the Second Sabbath of September 1845 in New Monkland. I have one child born to this couple in 1857, this seem a long time to start having children. I was wondering if anyone else on the list perhaps had more information on this family. Bob
> Hi Anne, this lady is related How is she related? Aunt, cousin, niece, sister to someone you know more about? Where does that information come from? > I did know that there was two on the census but which one is > right. Do you mean the UK or the Canadian census? Who else was in the same household? What, if any, was her relationship to the rest of the household? Anne
Does anyone know the Name Elizabeth MATHIE who was married to William Milne MASTERTON in 1925. In 1953 they lived in Bothwell. Elizabeth was the daughter of John MATHIE and Ann NEIL. Manythanks Allison.
Hi Can anyone give me information on Elizabeth WILKIE born 1891 in Glasgow. I don't know her parents name. manythanks Allison.
> Hi Can anyone give me information on Elizabeth WILKIE born > 1891 in Glasgow. I > don't know her parents name. Unfortunately this information is insufficient to pinpoint the person you want. According to the index at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk there were two Elizabeth Wilkies born in Glasgow in 1891 - one each in Hutchesontown and Kinning Park. You must know something more about this Elizabeth Wilkie, otherwise you wouldn't be interested in her. Do you know when/where/whom she married? Or when/where she died? Did she emigrate, and if so, where to and roughly when? Is 1891 a definite date, or is it based on a age in a census or other document somewhere? Can you be sure it is accurate? What else do you know about her? Anne
Hi Jim and Anne, There were certainly some terrible stories to come out of instances such as this. And the many who were exploited due to some unfortunate birth/growth disability. It is only now with the release of old records that we find the humiliation some people endured through their lifetime. Regards Jenny

Note that she is in a household with a 'strolling showman'. I think if she had been shown off for being fat rather than tall she would probably have been described as 'Exhibited fat lady'. Anne
Hi Jenny, As I recall the size of my Scottish grandparents, an thinking about a few generations back from them, this lady could have been a "giantess" at 5ft 10 inches. :) Jim -------------------------------------------------- From: "Jenny Myers" <jenm@exemail.com.au> Sent: Sunday, May 09, 2010 8:19 PM To: <lanark@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [Lanark] 1851 census, Old Monkland, ED 49, pages 16-18 > Hi Jim, > I was intrigued by the last entry.......................was she a very > tall > lady or was it in relation to size?? :-)) > > Jenny > ---------------------- > 67 St John Street > James McGeechan Head Mard 23 Iron Stone Miner Do > David Martin Visitor Widr 30 Do, do, do Do > John do Do Un 9 Do > Micheal Hart Do Un 28 Founder Lanark Glasgow > John Kean Do Un 23 Iron Stone Miner Ireland > Elisabeth McGeechan Sister Un 19 House Keeper Do68 > > Henry Johnstone Head Un 21 Strolling Showman England > Ann Ewing Visitor Un 8 Do > > Ann McDonald Do Un 18 **Exhibited Giantess** Do > > > ------------------------------- > > LANARK, SCOTLAND MAILING LIST > > > LIST TOPIC: The discussion and research of genealogy or history > information pertaining to Lanark, Scotland at any point in its history. > > WHEN REPLYING to any list post please remember to snip most of the earlier > message before you post any reply > > LIST INFORMATION PAGE: Contact the List Admin at > lanark-admin@rootsweb.com; or to search the list archives, get information > on subscribing or unsubscribing, or to obtain other useful information to > help you use the list more effectively, please click on the following link > to the list information page online: > > http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index/intl/SCT/LANARK.html > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > LANARK-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
