Hello everyone, I just discoverd the message below in the Widener mailing list archives and was wondering if someone on this list might know something about my family. The Margaret A. Lambert in this message is my great-great grandmother. I was very excited to find this message because my family has been looking for information on Margaret for about 40 years without any success until just recently. She was born Oct 4, 1854 in Estill Springs, Franklin Co, TN or Texas. She married a William Sockwell of Georgia and they moved to Mississippi where they had a very large family. We never knew who her parents were but I recently found a distant cousin who told me that her father was a Mr. Lambert and her mother was a Ms. Bates. After that, I discovered that she was living in the house of Margaret Widener below. I had also heard that she was an orphan, but now I am wondering if maybe she was Margaret Widener's grandaughter and maybe her mother was the Mary who married (remarried?) William Bates. If you know anything about this Widener family, I would really appreciate the help and would be glad to reciprocate in any way possible. Margaret is again listed in 1850 Bedford Census age 40 with a Mary Widener aged 13. I show a record in the LDS I.G.I. record of the marriage of Sarah R Widener and Robert V Butner on 03 Jan 1872 Franklin Co with entry [10 Dec 1985 JR batch M5129201 serial sheet 3956] This M in the batch number, if I'm not mistaken, means a marriage record was microfilmed and entered...not an entry from a family genealogy. More work to do but think we need more infor from Bedford and Franklin Co records to move much further. By the way, this Martin Widener come from South Carolina and then thru one of the two brothers of Henry of North Carolina... Jacob or Isaac. Sorry, not in my head at the moment. If this is the line, you can tie back to Pennsylvania in the 1720- 1730's. I would like to inquire whether any of you are descended from Joel Lambert and Mary (Polly) Morgan. This couple married on Dec. 15, 1807, in Clarke Co., GA. By 1819, they were in the Lauderdale/Limestone Co. area of Alabama, near the TN border. He died about 1832. From estate records we can identify the following children: Asa Morgan Lambert m. Sarah Elizabeth Ragsdale, moved to AR (Franklin Co.) William H. Lambert m. Jane J. Bailey, moved to AR and died in the Civil War James D. Lambert, in Lauderdale Co., AL, in 1852 John S. Lambert Joel Z. Lambert Edward/Edwin Rufus Lambert m. Martha _____, moved to AR but may have died in AL in 1864 Isaphena E. Lambert m. ____ Wilkins Rebecca C. Lambert Nancy Lambert m. Drury/Andrew Ragsdale, moved to AR Joel died at a relatively young age. I estimate his birth year as 1785, so he was only about 47 at his death. He left several children identified as being under the age of 14 in 1834, including Joel, Edward, and Isaphena. Does anyone trace relations to James Lambert and Marie Cameron? Married in the 60's? Worcester MA and Auburn Ma area. We were foster children all our lives and know Marie lives in worcester, but seek to trace further back. James Lambert deceased in 74 I believe due to car accident.
