Hello all: There appears to be a small timing issue in the message concerning John George Lambton, First Earl of Durham. The same person would not have negotiated both the peace with the Americans after the Revolutionary war 1776-1778, and the independence of Canada within the British Empire, which came to fruition in 1867. Perhaps they were referring to the steps for local autonomy of the colonies of Upper and Lower Canada, which took place well before Canadian Confederation. Salut.........
