    3. Timing Correction. I apologise for the mistake. John George Lambton did not arrive in Canada until 1838. I was referring to the choice of John George Lambton and his appointment as High Commissioner of British North America at a critical time in North American History. The Lambton family had been neighbours of the de Wessyngton family, ancestors of George Washington, First President of the United States, in England. See; www.Http://www.AncestryUK.com/WashingtonAncestry.htm George Lamberton who had bought Philadelphia off the American Indians had been part of the Scottish branch of the family which has split centuries before, and knew the Lambtons well in England. See; www.http://www.AncestryUK.com/LambertonAncestry.htm We knew that Sir Thomas Lambton had been Governor of the Leeward Islands under Cromwell, but we did not know of the direct Lambton family connection in New England in 1760. With regard to John Lambert and King Phillips war, in 1676 please see; www.http://www.AncestryUK.com/LatestDiscoveries.htm which gives details of General John Lambert, Cromwell's understudy in the U.K. and why we suspect he could be the same guy as John Lambert who got credit for Military Service in King Phillips War which was a result of a massacre in Swansee, Plymouth, America. Two Plymouths (England & America) and two military Lamberts (General John Lambert and John Lambert)considering the population in America, and the Lambton/Lamberton/Lambert family connections with America 1676 is a bit of a coincidence. If anyone has any information, please advise Regards, Eric William Lamberon --- LAMBERT-D-request@rootsweb.com wrote: > > Hello all: > > There appears to be a small timing issue in the > message concerning John > George Lambton, First Earl of Durham. > > The same person would not have negotiated both the > peace with the Americans > after the Revolutionary war 1776-1778, and the > independence of Canada > within the British Empire, which came to fruition in > 1867.
