    1. [LAMBERT] Lambert skeletons?
    2. HAMID, LINDA
    3. I think I have a few skeletons, too: 1. George LAMBERT was born in Yorkshire around 1860. His father, William (my great grandfather) was a Quartermaster in the British military. His war services are given as, "Qr.-Master Lambert served throughout the Eastern Campaign of 1854-55 [i.e. Crimean War], including the battles of Alma and Inkermann, siege and fall of Sebastopol, bombardment and surrender of Kinbourn (Medal with three clasps, and Turkish Medal). Served with the expedition in North China in 1860 [i.e. Second China War] (Medal and clasps)." (Sources: Hart's Army Lists for 1860, 1869, 1873, 1880, 1893, 1906) William and his wife Catherine migrated to New Zealand after William retired from the service around 1870. The other 4 kids went with them, George did not. He stayed in England, and married Maria Gowing (I think Maria was George's cousin). George was alive when his parents died (lots of great info on NZ death certs!), but was not mentioned in his dad's 1898 will. We will probably never know why he was excluded from his father's will. 2. William the Quartermaster's oldest son was my great grandfather, also named William. He died in 1917 San Francisco from Cerebro Spinal Lues (yep, advanced syphilis). We suspect his wife and youngest son also died from syphilis. (Both also died in 1917, the youngest son, Earl, was only 25 and died from "stroke" according to death cert.) The oldest two sons (one was my grandfather) did not have it. It appears William contracted syphilis in San Francisco (first 2 sons born in New Zealand, Earl born in 1892 in SF). 3. Earl, the son who we think died from congenital syphilis, was called "the black sheep of the family". He impregnated the family maid and they eloped. The couple had a daughter who was still born or died shortly after birth (syphilis again?). His mother had the marriage annulled. I have searched in vain for the marriage, annulment, and infant death. My great grandmother did a good job of hiding all evidence of this indiscretion! Any other LAMBERT skeletons? Seems to be a lot of skeletons. Some that just don't want to be found. My great grandfather was David Montgomery Lambert who died in 1960. He had a family then left them and they refuse to talk about him. I have no other information about him or his family. Talk to ya later, Laura P.
