    3. My ancestor John Lambert of Fayette County Ga had a concubine/mistress while still married to his first wife. When she died he married the concubine. The state legislature ordered him to legitmize the children that John had by his second wife. another Melvin cousin had four wives while serving as the sheriff of Santa Rosa county FL. From the deeds and census records each wife had her own house and lived next door or across the street from her other "step wives" ( as one of my friends refers to her husband's exs) Deborah Byrd
