    1. [LAMBERT] Lamberts of Sheffield
    2. Shane Lambert
    3. Hi All I am new to this list so thought I would start by posting my interests into the LAMBERT surname. I admit I haven't done much research into my own name so very little is known about my ancestors - here goes; At the top of my Lambert tree I have James William Lambert married Rose Waldrick (approx 1900), 4 children 1. Charles Lambert b.24 Apr 1906 Sheffield d.2 Oct 1974 Leeds (married Frances Draycott in 1933, 4 children) 2. Jim Lambert (no more known) [I have photo of Jim) 3. Rhoda Lambert (married Robert Henry Jones, 5 children) [I have photo of Rhoda & Robert] 4. Unknown Lambert. >From my Grandfather (Charles Lambert) birth certificate, James William Lambert was a coal carter (?). Charles (and I believe his brother[s]) was placed into a home for boys at The Sheffield Boys Working Home, 287 Western Bank, Sheffield. Charles settled in Leeds in 1922/23 where he is thought to have lived with an aunt of his in Woodhouse. He ended up being a lodger in a house in Cross Lisbon Street, Leeds where he met my Grandmother, Frances. Charles was a keen boxer and went under the name of "Digger". Charles and Frances' four children are (i) Charles Lambert b.1934 (ii) Mavis Lambert b.1935 (iii) Victor Lambert (my Father) b.1938 (iv) Frances Lambert b.1949. I know all the above info is very sketchy but is there anybody out there who has come across any of the names mentioned? many thanks, Shane. shanel@ministryofsound.net **************************************************************************** ******************************************************** The information contained in this e-mail is confidential and for the named parties only. 3. My Lamberts can be viewed from the web page in the url below. They are all originally from Dukinfield Cheshire and then Ashton Under Lyne Lancs. Not too far from Sheffield (only just over Woodhead I suppose) but as yet I cannot find any link to the city. My own fairly uneducated assumption is that the name is really common in East Anglia, possibly as a result of immigration from Europe, there are loads of Lamberts in Belgium and Western Germany, and then they slowly spread out across the UK from there. Any perusal of the GRO Index of B D & Ms shows that in the early years, the majority of Lambert entries are in that part of teh world. Antony B D & M Certificates: Pay with a non Sterling Cheque or by Credit Card and get them direct from the local office of the Superintendent Registrar. See my low tech web page for details. www.certificates.fsnet.co.uk/certific.htm or e mail me at antonylambert@certificates.fsnet.co.uk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shane Lambert" <shanel@ministryofsound.net> To: <LAMBERT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2001 8:03 AM Subject: [LAMBERT] Lamberts of Sheffield > > Hi All > > I am new to this list so thought I would start by posting my interests into > the LAMBERT surname. > > I admit I haven't done much research into my own name so very little is > known about my ancestors - here goes; > > At the top of my Lambert tree I have > > James William Lambert married Rose Waldrick (approx 1900), 4 children > 1.
