Dear Shane, Welcome to the list!! Where do your Lambert hail from? State? County? Do you have any connection to Huntington, West Virginia? I have a William Ramey Lambert who married Joan Shepherd in 1959 in Huntington, WV. They had two daughters; Claudia and Susan both born 1960 - 1963. Regards, Anne Marie http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~menard/mcenerny/index.htm
My Lamberts can be viewed from the web page in the url below. They are all originally from Dukinfield Cheshire and then Ashton Under Lyne Lancs. Not too far from Sheffield (only just over Woodhead I suppose) but as yet I cannot find any link to the city. My own fairly uneducated assumption is that the name is really common in East Anglia, possibly as a result of immigration from Europe, there are loads of Lamberts in Belgium and Western Germany, and then they slowly spread out across the UK from there. Any perusal of the GRO Index of B D & Ms shows that in the early years, the majority of Lambert entries are in that part of teh world. Antony B D & M Certificates: Pay with a non Sterling Cheque or by Credit Card and get them direct from the local office of the Superintendent Registrar. Hi All I am new to this list so thought I would start by posting my interests into the LAMBERT surname. I admit I haven't done much research into my own name so very little is known about my ancestors - here goes; At the top of my Lambert tree I have James William Lambert married Rose Waldrick (approx 1900), 4 children 1. Charles Lambert b.24 Apr 1906 Sheffield d.2 Oct 1974 Leeds (married Frances Draycott in 1933, 4 children) 2. Jim Lambert (no more known) [I have photo of Jim) 3. Rhoda Lambert (married Robert Henry Jones, 5 children) [I have photo of Rhoda & Robert] 4. Unknown Lambert. >From my Grandfather (Charles Lambert) birth certificate, James William Lambert was a coal carter (?). Charles (and I believe his brother[s]) was placed into a home for boys at The Sheffield Boys Working Home, 287 Western Bank, Sheffield. Charles settled in Leeds in 1922/23 where he is thought to have lived with an aunt of his in Woodhouse. He ended up being a lodger in a house in Cross Lisbon Street, Leeds where he met my Grandmother, Frances. Charles was a keen boxer and went under the name of "Digger". Charles and Frances' four children are (i) Charles Lambert b.1934 (ii) Mavis Lambert b.1935 (iii) Victor Lambert (my Father) b.1938 (iv) Frances Lambert b.1949. Happy New Year from New Zealand.. We are trying to connect with this Lambert family. They are part of my husbands family. The details I have are from Wedding and Birth certificates that I obtained from the new Family Records Centre, London during a visit in November 2000. Does anyone trace relations to James Lambert and Marie Cameron? Married in the 60's? Worcester MA and Auburn Ma area. We were foster children all our lives and know Marie lives in worcester, but seek to trace further back. James Lambert deceased in 74 I believe due to car accident. We are Ron,Tim and Steve Lambert in our 30's now. Much obliged. -----Original Message----- From: Joseph B. Hello everyone, I just discoverd the message below in the Widener mailing list archives and was wondering if someone on this list might know something about my family. The Margaret A. Lambert in this message is my great-great grandmother. I was very excited to find this message because my family has been looking for information on Margaret for about 40 years without any success until just recently. She was born Oct 4, 1854 in Estill Springs, Franklin Co, TN or Texas. She married a William Sockwell of Georgia and they moved to Mississippi where they had a very large family. We never knew who her parents were but I recently found a distant cousin who told me that her father was a Mr. Lambert and her mother was a Ms. Bates. After that, I discovered that she was living in the house of Margaret Widener below. I had also heard that she was an orphan, but now I am wondering if maybe she was Margaret Widener's grandaughter and maybe her mother was the Mary who married (remarried?) William Bates. If you know anything about this Widener family, I would really appreciate the help and would be glad to reciprocate in any way possible. Thanks so much, Christopher Johnson Date: Tue, 09 Feb 1999 17:27:00 -0800 From: lwidner <lwidner@worldnet.att.net> To: WIDENER-L@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <36C0E064.ED7DCC93@worldnet.att.net> Subject: Re: Tennessee W_D_N_R & Butner Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Jan, We may need to work on this one. I have only one family in Franklin Co in the 1850 or 1860 census...[always a possiblity I missed] and it is a conglomerated family... 1860 Franklin Co Margaret Widener age 49 William Bates 25 Mary M Bates 23 Margaret A Lambert 6 Marcus L Lambert 4 This county of Franklin was formed from Bedford Co and we find W_D_N_R's there very early with: 1830 Bedford Co Tennessee Martin Widener 0000001-0010101 male 30-40, female 40-50, female 20-30,female 10-15 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1840 Bedford C Tennessee Margaret Widener 024000-10001 2 males 5-10, 4 males 10-15 1 female 20-30 1 female under 5 ---------------------------------------------------------------- So, this female Margaret as head of household in 1840 and the Margaret heading the household in Franklin Co stand a chance of being the same. Margaret is again listed in 1850 Bedford Census age 40 with a Mary Widener aged 13. I show a record in the LDS I.G.I. record of the marriage of Sarah R Widener and Robert V Butner on 03 Jan 1872 Franklin Co with entry [10 Dec 1985 JR batch M5129201 serial sheet 3956] This M in the batch number, if I'm not mistaken, means a marriage record was microfilmed and entered...not an entry from a family genealogy. More work to do but think we need more infor from Bedford and Franklin Co records to move much further. By the way, this Martin Widener come from South Carolina and then thru one of the two brothers of Henry of North Carolina... Jacob or Isaac. Sorry, not in my head at the moment. If this is the line, you can tie back to Pennsylvania in the 1720- 1730's. It needs more work digging in the Franklin and Bedford Co records...deeds, wills, etc Regards L@@ ============================================================ janr wrote: > > Hi, > > Do you have a Sarah (Sallie) Widener b abt 1855 > in TN, married to Robert Butner in your research? > > Robert is my gg-grandfather and I am trying to track > down information on his wife. William Mac Sockwell b. c. 1848 in Ga d. aft 1919 inJones Co, MS. I was told by elder members of the family that her parents were a Mr. Lambert who married an unknown Bates or Gates. They would have beenmarried sometime in the mid 1800's. This posting is in response to the Sandy in Florida 12-9-00. Sandy I have seen charts that have Sarah born 1809 has the daughter of Garrett Lambert not Jeremiah. The Sarah daughter of Jeremiah b: 1829 in Tazewell CO. Virginia d: Nov. 02, 1891 in Kansas. She married Alfred Fisher b: Nov. 20, 1823 in Clarmont Co. Ohio d: June 28, 1905 in Hutchinson, Kansas m: May 15, 1864 in Warren Co., Iowa. In my posting of 12-8- I offered to anyone (which dose include you) a copy of the new material that I found in Virginia. The cost of coping and postage is $2.65. As of this posting you haven't requested a copy. Yes it dose say that Joseph P. is the brother of John P., also refers to the land sale which was marked as evidence D. I have written a full response to your posting but I feel that it would serve no purpose as you have no intention of ever changing your mind no matter how much evidence, or documentation that I find.
