As I make additions to the Lincoln Parish Archives I will post a notice to this list telling you what's been added and where. Tonight I've added the 1928 entries to the A.O. Jones Diary that was submitted by his son, Calvin Jones. This will be an ongoing process for the next several weeks as I type the diary. So far, the years 1927, 1927, & 1928 are posted at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/lincoln/diary.htm Arthur O. Jones was a farmer from Simsboro. He kept a diary from Jan. 1, 1926 until Jan. 5, 1944. Below is an excerpt from an article in The Ruston Daily Leader when the original diary was donated to the LA Tech Archives by his sons: Mr. Jones wrote in his diary every day from Jan. 1, 1926, through Jan. 5, 1944. Each day he recorded the weather, activities on the farm, visits to family members and friends and trips into town. He noted who was born, who was married and who died in the surrounding area as well as nationally significant events. He also kept a record of the items he had bought and their cost. An example from the diary in 1941: "Dec. 7, Sun., Went Church at Simsboro - The USS Oklahoma sunk by Japan, over 300 our casualties reported. Dec. 8, Mon., Worked at plant - U.S. declared war on Japan. Dec. 9, Tue., Worked at plant - Later casualties over 3,000." Dr. Bobs Tusa, university archivist, said the diary is an excellent record of daily life on a farm in North Central Louisiana and provides useful source material for researchers in meteorology, agriculture, history and social sciences. Enjoy, Peggy

Hi Debra, While reading your posting of surnames, I noticed you had Mitchell, did your Mitchell family marry into the Autrey family in Dubach? I have a slew of Mitchells that was a result of Absalom Autrey's daughter, Lucinda Autrey, marrying John B. L. Mitchell and they had five children. Lucinda Autrey was born 1829 in Perry Co., Ala. and married John Brown L. Mitchell n 1847 in Perry Co. Al., were married by Bird Griffin, J. P., who was Lucinda's uncle. John was born Nov 4 1826 in Perry Co. Al. and was the son of John and Nancy (Wilson) Mitchell. I will share what information I have with anyone researching these lines. Feel free to contact me individually for more details. You are also invited to check out the following sites at your convenience. If you make connections, please contact us. My apologies, please ignore this. I'm just testing to see why some of my messages come through with the [LALINCOL] in front of the subject line and some of them don't. Do we have any computer wizards on this list? I know just enough about this stuff to get myself in trouble! Peggy
Hi, I'm going to post a couple of things that Jo Autrey has graciously submitted for the Lincoln Parish Archives to this list to give you a little preview before it goes up on the webpage, and to let you know what kind of records we need for the archives. She has submitted a lot more but I won't post all of it -- you'll have to watch for it to go up on the archive webpage in a few days. If you're not familiar with the archives, this is the url: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/lincoln.htm If you have obits, biographies, court or land records, marriage records, anything like that pertaining to Lincoln Parish, we would love to have you submit it to the archives. Please help us build a database the will help other Lincoln Parish researchers who are not as fortunate as those of us who live an hour or so away! Peggy, Thanks for sending your Griffins. I don't think we connect. I just found Lewis Griffin, my husband's gggrandfather b. about 1830, married to Ionia Finley (his second wife). The son in our line was John T. Griffin, married to Stella Bryan. Stella and John T. died some time around 1890 and left five young boys as orphans. Lewis was apparently born in Alabama. John was born in Alabama to Lewis and his first wife. I hope someone else might find a connection. Dorothy
Hi, I am researching all the Embry families that may have lived in Loncoln Parish in any time frame. Some married into the the McElroy, Cook and Howard lines. Any information much appreciated. Thanks, Sally

I'm going to have to let those on the list supply that knowledge. I do know that you can write to the Lincoln Parish Courthouse regarding marriage records. Their address is 100 West Texas Avenue, Ruston, LA 71270-4463. According to Everton's Gen. Helper, they have marriage records from 1873 forward so they apparently suffered cthouse fires also. Birth and death record copy requests would have to be directed to the LA State Archives, PO Box 94125, Baton Rouge, LA 70804. Maybe someone else can give you more specific information. Good luck! Peggy
I would like to know if there is a book available for early Lincoln Parish marriages as I have many ancestors and extended lines from that area and surrounding counties. I am interested in copies of these marriages as well as other documentation of my family lines in Dubach and other areas of Lincoln Parish. Where would one write for copies of marriage, birth, death and other records in Lincoln Parish? What are the prices for these certificates, and do they have "research copies", or do you have to purchase certified copies? Is there a genealogical society in Lincoln Parish? If so, what is the membership cost? My husband's grandfather, Elbert Eugene Autrey, was born January 4, 1868 in Dubach, La. Elbert Eugene Autrey was the son of Robert Martin Autrey, b. Peggy, Thanks for taking on Lincoln! I am interested in Griggs, Griffin, and Killingsworth in the Indian Village area, which was, apparently, sometimes in Lincoln. Dorothy
Thanks a lot Peggy for this wonderful site, I know it will be a success as we all have so many of our family lines that came at least through Louisiana to Texas and other areas. Please let me introduce myself to this new list. I'm Jo Autrey and live in Dallas, Texas. I have a rich history of Louisiana families and have them back to 1848 just in La., Dubach, Lincoln Parish, La. I have the Autrey lines back to 1700's and still working on them, as I have been doing since 1982. I still have many gaps! I am researching these names and will gladly exchange information with anyone interested in sharing with me their information. AUTREY,NORRIS,TUBBS,MITCHELL,COLVIN,REED,MCGEE, and so many others in La. I also have: BEASLEY,ALEXANDER,ENDSLEY,SCARBOROUGH,TORRENS,KEMP,GADDIS, LYON,SHEPPARD,CHAPMAN,ROGERS,CARPENTER, and many others in my lines of research. I look forward to the postings from this list, and will be posting information soon.
