    3. I've just loaded this rather lengthy and interesting biography to the Lincoln Parish Archives, the "Family History & Remembrances of Arthur Osban Jones" submitted by Mr. Calvin B. Jones of Farmerville. This bio goes into the early family history (from the Civil War era, forward) and move from Meridian, MS to Baton Rouge, Harrisonburg, then on to Gaars Mill in Winn Parish (where Arthur O. Jones was born), Melrose in Natchitoches Parish, back to Atlanta in Winn Parish, then finally on to Lincoln Parish. Surnames mentioned and connections discussed in addition to JONES are COLVIN, BLACKMAN, MASTERS, WRIGHT, HALLMARK, DRUITT, SUTTON, CARGAL/CARGIL, CHOATE, FOGLE, DYE, ALEXANDER, DAVIDSON, MAYO, MCDUFFY, & BROWN. Also, the obituaries of John Horatio Sanders and Jalutia Jane Lindsay Sanders have been added to the Archives courtesy of their great-great grandson, Jeff Martin of Houston, TX. THANKS to both gentlemen for these great additions! Peggy Beaubouef Lincoln Parish Archive Coordinator http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/lincoln.htm

    1. [LALINCOL-L] GOOD NEWS!
    2. Peggy Beaubouef
    3. Hi everyone, I had been told sometime ago by someone (don't remember who) that the Ruston Daily Leader would not give permission to use their obits on the archives. I came across their website last night and decided to ask them to reconsider, explaining the USGenWeb Archives, what we wanted to do, etc. Nothing ventured, nothing gained, as the saying goes. Today I got a very nice response from the editor giving us their blessing to use their material on the archives!!! It seems there was a misunderstanding when they were approached before. They thought whoever asked permission was asking THEM to do the collecting and submitting of the material! He said if that was not the case, then certainly we had their permission. He suggested using the microfilm copies at the Lincoln Parish Library or the Louisiana Tech Library, as there had been a fire at the newspaper office in the late 1960s that destroyed most of what they had there. But he said people were welcome to come by the newspaper office and use what they had left if they wanted to. Of course, if you're not in the Ruston area some of the larger libraries may also have the microfilm, or can get it for you on interlibrary loan. Also, some of you probably already have obits on your family members. If you do, now we can use them! If you do go to the libraries, just remember to make a note of the date of the issue when you copy something so we can give proper credit and source information. So start sending in those Ruston Daily Leader obits, articles, etc.!!!! Let's make the Lincoln Parish Archives a valuable research tool for everyone. Thanks, Peggy

This cemetery was transcribed and submitted by Mr. Calvin B. Jones of Farmerville. A very special thanks to him for all his hard work! This cemetery was typed for the archives by Jo Autrey of Dallas, Texas. This lady has very graciously offered to help type material for the archives and subsequently became my very FAVORITE person in the world!!!! :) Thanks a bunch Jo! 1. [LALINCOL-L] Lindsey/Sanders
    2. Jeff Martin
    3. Hello.. Long story short: Was finally able to make the trip to Ruston for the first time last week and had a chance to take the beautiful drive East of Ruston to the small township of Choudrant. This is where my ancestors were supposedly living in the late 1800s. Not much there and was a bit disapointed that there wasn't more of Choudrant left after its demise. That was nothing compared to the demise of Longstraw which was at one time larger than Choudrant but is now nothing more than a church and cemetery. (the cemetery is quite a peaceful place). My gg-grandfather was John Horatio Sanders b. 1860 who married Jalutia Jane Lindsay b. 1860. John was said to be Mayor AND Sheriff of Choudrant around the turn of the century. Does anyone have any data on Lindsay's or Sanders/Saunders from this area and this era? Jeff jmartin@fairfield.com

    1. [LALINCOL-L] Curiosity killed the cat
    2. Peggy Beaubouef
    3. As I'm typing the Jones Diary for the archives I've come across several entries that really have my curiosity stirred up. In 1928 on May 14th & 15th he makes the following statements "28 U.S. Army planes passed going west" and "42 planes passed going west". And then again in 1931 on June 4th "59 army planes pass west". Does anybody have any idea about where these planes were from or what they were doing? Mr. Jones was a farmer in the Simsboro area. In 1928 and 1931 that many planes flying over in one day must have really been an event! Come to think of it, that would be an event right now! Peggy

I know Charles WILLIS had several siblings. Would like to discover their names and hopefully find out where Charles WILLIS is buried. I also, have been unable to discover where and when (son) Hosea WILLIS died and where he is buried. Charles and Hosea most likely died somewhere in Oklahoma between 1910 and 1920.
