    3. No one answered it, Jo. I think from other remarks made in the diary there was a training base somewhere nearby at the time. I would like to know a little more about it though. I should add that to my list of research projects to get done in the next millennium, huh?!! LOL. Peggy jmautrey wrote: > > > This is an old post, did anyone answer it? For those of you not familiar with this feature, it is a very useful tool for searching the contents of the entire Louisiana Archives in a variety of ways as shown by the search instructions given on the search webpage. Thanks Annette, for reminding me of this. I should have linked it long ago. Peggy http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/winn.htm http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/lincoln.htm

"Buddy" was the father of three lovely children Shea Rinehart, Erica Rinehart, and Tom Rinehart and a stepson, Jeremy Cooper. Buddy was a proud father who adored his children and enjoyed bragging on them to anyone who would listen. Who was "Buddy" Rinehart? Buddy was a member of Douglas United Methodist Church which he joined on July 30, 1964. He was a graduate of Choudrant High School, where he was loved by his teachers and friends. Buddy joined the army and saw action while overseas during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and graduated from La. Although Buddy worked for an Oil & Gas Company - his real love was for his home and farm - where he raised chickens, cows and horses. In death he was doing what he loved most - riding his tractor and keeping his farm in tip top condition. Who was "Buddy" Rinehart? He was the son of Tom and Willie Dean (Hennen) Rinehart - loaned to them by God on November 2, 1949 into a house full of older sisters - Dorothy, Johnnie, Tommie, Sybil and Jeanette and a loving maternal grandmother - "Mama Lou" Hennen. Buddy was a loveable - mischievous child who brought more love and laughter into our home. He had an outgoing personality and seldom if ever met a stranger. Who was "Buddy" Rinehart? Buddy was a - father - a son - a friend - and from the very beginning until the very end - "A Little Brother" to his five older sisters. God loaned Buddy to us for almost forty nine years and on August 9, 1998 he was met with open arms by God - and his loved ones who walked the path before him. Who Was Buddy Rinehart? He was "Our Dad" - "Our Son" - "Our Little Brother" - "Our Uncle" - "Our Cousin" - and "Our Friend" and although our hearts are heavy with grief and sadness - we know that he has gone before us to Mow the weeds - and that his father - his grandparents and other loved ones are preparing a home for those he has left behind here on earth. Buddy - "Little Brother" - we will miss you - and our grief is almost unbearable - but we will cherish your memory of the love and happiness you brought into our home and it won't be long before we join you in that promised land. "Dear Dad - Son - "Little Brother" - Uncle - Cousin and Friend - our hearts are heavy with sadness - but we will meet you someday - in the promised land. DAVID SUMPTER RINEHART (son of Sumpter David Rinehart and Katherine "Kate" Boddie) born December 2, 1870 in Edgefield County, SC; died August 7, 1894 in Clarence, La, seven miles east of Natchitoches, La. Burial was in the Douglas Methodist Cemetery near Ruston. David was a tall, handsome young man with blond hair. Following is the Death Notice that appeared in the New Orleans Christian Advocate on August 30, 1894. RINEHART - Our dear Bro. and Sister S. D. Rinehart, of Douglas, La., received a terrible shock in the sudden and tragic death of their second son, DAVID. He had for some months been employed by Mr. Fisher of Clarence, La., seven miles east of Natchitoches, on Red River. At the time he was engaged in getting some timber in the swamp when he was terribly crushed by a falling tree. The skull was broken and his right side terribly crushed, yet he lived seven hours after the accident. He was brought home yesterday on the train and buried in the cemetery at Douglas. A large congregation of relatives and friends attended his funeral. DAVID SUMPTER RINEHART was born in Edgefield County, South Carolina on December 2, 1870. He made a profession of religion and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church South, at about thirteen years of age. His death occurred at Clarence, LA., August 7, 1894. David was a young man of noble character. He was universally loved in the community where he was raised, as well-as in the community where he met his sad and untimely death. His employer said to this writer: "He was the most trustworthy young man I ever had in my employ." He was cut off in the prime of young manhood. May his young friends take heed to this lesson! God bless and sustain the bereaved family! Jno A. Miller. Ruston, La., August 10, 1894.. --------------D67220D58424BAE686AAFA91--

Files may be printed or copied for personal use only. This is a copy of a letter written by Sumpter David Rinehart in 1900 to his sister Johannah Randall in South Carolina. Ruston, La. Feb. 12, 1900 Mr. & Mrs. Eugene Randall & family Johnston, South Carolina Dear Brother and Sister and Children It has been a long time since we have wrote to each other and as I am alone this Sunday eve and my mind is fastened on the old home folks..I can think of nothing better than to talk with them through the mail. Many hours have I spent in thinking of you all and wondering whether or not will ever meet again on earth. I sometimes think; that I well sell out and come home to spend the remainder of my short days and when I die to be laid near my Mother, but then the thought of my children comes up and I can't leave them. I have but 2 (children) living and three dead in this State and only one (child) there - so I have to conclude to spend my short days here. I am now nearly 55 years old - I can't expect many more years at best but by the help of God I expect to spend that time in his service. I reckon you know that I have sold out my farm and store in the country and have moved to Ruston. I bought a house and lot of 5 and a half acres of land. Ruston is a growing town with 2 railroads running through it. It has a population of 3 thousand and is growing rapidly; 2 fine schools and about 7 hundred students besides other industries which makes it a thriving town. I think the property I have will be very valuable in a short time. We already have 3 churches all with a large membership; 3 good Sunday Schools. I am a teacher in the Methodist S.S. Our school numbers about 175. Debbie and her husband has bought land on Cane River about 75 miles from us. Charlie is living about 6 miles from us - both doing very well. As for myself I reckon I have as much as I deserve. I am not pressed in any way whatever. Old Uncle West is looking very old. He has a rite young wife and one baby he thinks that is all the baby there is, he pets it mightily. Tobe the little Negro Aunt Shady Ann raised is married and has one child. You must write to me and tell me all the news about all the family. It does me good to get a letter from home folks. Me and Kate is all alone, wish I had some of folks to live with us - a girl especially to help Kate. I will close, give my love to all - a portion for yourselves. I remain as ever - your only brother. S. D. Rinehart. --------------604A751204679BF62C372866--

    3. Hi Peggy, This info comes from the book "Lincoln Parish, LA Marriage Records, 1873-1901", published 1987 by J & W Enterprises, Shreveport, LA, and compiled by Willie Huffman Farley. (I believe they can't sue me for copyright infringement if I volunteer to do lookups from it, just can't post the entire volume.) J & W Enterprises has a website, you could do a search for it. CHANDLER, Mrs. Isabella, to R.A. LEACHMAN, 21 Sep 1893, Book D, pg. 443 FOWLER, Thomas, to Mrs. Eller SHERRARD, 17 Feb 1894, Book D, pg. 486 The Lincoln Parish Clerk of Court, In Ruston, LA (I don't have phone number), would be able to tell you how to request a copy of a marriage license, think they are just a couple of dollars. Hope this helps, Deb ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail.
