Hi everyone, I feel I need to explain something before you all think that you have Atilla the Hun for a list manager ..... in reading back over my conversations with Jo last night I see that I made a glaring assumption (yes, Jo, I do that too! <g>) that no one else was aware of ..... I had picked up Jo's Autrey Estate posting and was in the process of preparing it for the Lincoln Archives when I asked for that source information. I would never be so rude as to try and tell someone how they should post anything to this list, as long as you stay within the bounds of common courtesy. *Especially* Jo, who has been a good friend and a staunch supporter of this list and the archives. As further explanation, I am also AC for Winn Parish and when someone posts a file like that to the Winn Parish list, it is understood that it is for Archive submission and I automatically pick it up and prepare it for the Archives. Sometimes I have to request the source info if they forget to include it, which is part of my job as Archive Coordinator. That is IF I have time ..... I fall down on my job sometimes! >From now on I will not assume that things posted to this list are for archive submission unless you specify that by adding "FOR ARCHIVE SUBMISSION" to the beginning of the email. Or if you forget, I will ask you (which is what I should have done last night) before I include it in the Archives. My apologies to the list and to Jo (who has been ever so gracious and understanding through all this) for causing a disruption. Moral to the story ...... never try to communicate with people when you're 2 1/2 weeks away from your only child's wedding date!!!! Now, enough on that subject ..... back to genealogy! Peggy
I'm sorry as well folks, did a exercise in "assuming".:) Since it was dated and shown to be from Lincoln Parish, La., never even thought of restating the source and date. However, not everyone is familiar with court records, or how to research them. Thanks Peggy, will try to do better the nest time ----- Original Message ----- From: Peggy Beaubouef <pbeaubou@iamerica.net> To: <LALINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 24, 1999 6:59 PM Subject: Re: [LALINCOL-L] Absalom Autrey Estatee 1885 > Sorry!! Hi Peg, I'm sorry. I didn't make any other comment other than what was on the document since it was shown to be from Lincoln Parish Louisiana and dated, I didn't think it would be necessary to explain it could be found in the Lincoln Parish Courthouse and to repeat the date. I just assumed anyone would know it was from Lincoln Parish Court house and would be found in the records shown for the year stated. Always heard "assuming" was a bad exercise, should have remembered it.:) Thanks for pointing this out, will try to remember to do so in the future. Good to hear from you. ----- Original Message ----- From: Peggy Beaubouef <pbeaubou@iamerica.net> To: <LALINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 24, 1999 6:40 PM Subject: Re: [LALINCOL-L] Absalom Autrey Estatee 1885 > Jo, > Do you have the probate file # or some time of reference # for this that > we can show as the source? Sorry!! Didn't mean for this to go to the list! But I guess it's a good reminder for all of us. I know I've done the same thing Jo did with this one ..... you get so involved in typing up the file and getting it just right, that you forget to include the source. But those are important for people researching via the Internet. We all know that good researchers *should* <g> verify everything they find on the Net and will need those references to do that. Peggy
Jo, Do you have the probate file # or some time of reference # for this that we can show as the source? Did you find in Lincoln Parish Courthouse? We should always include sources so others can obtain copies of original records for documentation to their own genealogy. HI! I'm research the CHRISTY and BARTLETT families who were originally in Claiborne Parish then in Lincoln after it was formed. T. P. Christy married Mary Ann BOYT in Lincoln parish 1879. Then they just seem to disappear until the 1900 census down in Rapides Parish. So far all the Christy's I've found in north LA during the 1800s can be connected to this family thru T.P.'s grandfather, Thomas Christy who was in the 1830 and 1840 Claiborne Parish census. My Barlett line is Harriett who married John Christy in Claiborne Parish 1850. He died in the Civil War and she remarried a Rhesa SMITH in 1866. The only other Barlett I found in Claiborne was a Daniel and Nappier Bartlett. Daniel signed her marriage cert and is later found in Lincoln Parish. Does anyone have connections with these families? Thanks, Debi
