The Lafayette Public Library is hosting a talk on "Genetics and Louisiana Families" Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Dr. John Doucet, Associate Professor of Genetics at Nicholls State University, will outline basic principles of genetics, give an overview of common misconceptions, speak on proper ways of thinking about genetic makeup and diseases in Louisiana families and tell how to locate quality information. It does not appear that he will directly address the use of genetics in genealogical research, but his talk may prove relevant, especially if there are any hereditary diseases in your family.
