Members Thursday evening and you can come in earlier at 5:30 we will start filling the ditty bags of two genealogy magazines, passouts for genealogy books, magazines, items to buy from of these genealogy sites, items from the conference center about Lafayette. We will discuss the conference and the help we need in setting up the rooms for presentations, where the speakers will be put in the rooms so the equipment will be placed for them. Puting up chauk boards or the write on boards for speakers. We need help for registration and pre-restration and passing out the ditty bags. Someone to direct guests to class rooms. Someone to direct guests in between classes to other classes. People to man the kitchen selling cokes and coffee and passing out lunches to guests during lunch break. We need feedback from our guests to our members about the conference (Good, Bad, Ugly) if we plan to have another one. Saturday evening we need a crew to clean and put the classrooms back the way we found them. We need to put all the chairs away and rearrange the classrooms back for the students for monday. There will be a service Sunday morning and we don't want to leave a mess in case we may want to come back. We have a nice lady from the church that will help with the clean-up. With close to 200 people that may show up, someone to check the restrooms for toilet paper and possible clean up the trash of paper towels, etc. After we eat a crew to clean up the tables of trash and to remind the guests where the trash cans are for them to help clean it up. There will probably be much more to add but we need volunteers for this. We will tell you about this and the hours we plan to be at the church Thursday evening. Thank you, Earl Gates ________________________________________________________________________ Check out the new AOL. Daniel the Society is proud of you. Congratulation on becoming a Deacon of the Catholic Church. We know that it took a lot of work and devotion. Now we wont have to get a priest at the banquet since we have our own. The only picture I recognized was Maddie, but we knew you were in there some place. I sent this to you the other day, but James said that you were not getting anything from the Society. For some reason your email was not on the list. Sorry about that. Charles

Is anyone researching this man? We have a query about this family. Gustave Broussard born 1908 son of William Broussard born 1878 William married Jeannette Langlois daughter of Ellis Langlois and Linda Landry.
Daniel the Society is proud of you. Congratulation on becoming a Deacon of the Catholic Church. We know that it took a lot of work and devotion. Now we wont have to get a priest at the banquet since we have our own. The only picture I recognized was Maddie, but we knew you were in there some place.
The minutes for the last meeting are now posted on our website _www.rootsweb.com/~lalgs_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~lalgs) There will be a meeting at the Lafayette Public Library this Thursday 21 September 2006 at 630 pm. We will be discussing the Conference and the election of officers. Please come and bring a friend. The food will be great and the comradery will be "fantabulist" to say the least. Don't forget about the Ancestral Footprints Conference that will be held at the Grace Presbyterian Church on 21 October 2006. We encourage all members to attend. Help from members is need to help set up Friday night and clean up Saturday night. Please hep us.
Just checked and see 5,020 signatures, with 2 days to go. Please get word out to your constituencies so they can sign the petiition! (my last request, I promise!--at least this time around!) --------- Have you signed the petition about the proposed cut of NARA hours? http://www.PetitionOnline.com/FGS2006/petition.html (Case sensitive) If you belong to a non-genealogical research group please alert them to the petition. Just a reminder if you haven't signed the petition concerning NARA proposed closings here it is. ************* Dear Conference Attendee: We were honored to have Dr. Allen Weinstein, Archivist of the United States attend the FGS/NEHGS 2006 Conference in Boston and to address us in the Opening Session on Thursday, August 31, 2006. Following his remarks, he was presented with a letter by the Chair of the Records Preservation and Access Committee (RPAC) addressing concerns about the proposed changes in the hours of operation for the Research Rooms at the National Archives. It has come to our attention that very few of our constituencies are making their voices heard on this issue. This lack of response sends a loud signal to the Archives that this is not a serious issue and that closing the Archives on evenings and Saturdays is irrelevant. The RPAC has recommended the following suggestions for the Archives to consider: 1) To accommodate the needs of those who need access on Saturdays, we propose that you close one other day per week. This would be at your discretion. Other archives often close Sunday and Monday. 2) Users who need evening hour access could be accommodated by opening the archives later in the day, again at your discretion. If you agree with the recommendations stated above, we are asking your support by immediately going on-line and adding your “signature” to our petition to substitute the hours of access and still help the archives to meet their need to consolidate their hours of operation. Before 8 September 2006, please go to: <http://www.PetitionOnline.com/FGS2006/petition.html> (Case sensitive) If you wish to send your own personal letter, send it prior to 8 September 2006 and address it to: Regulations Comments Desk (NPOL) Room 4100, Policy and Planning Staff National Archives and Records Administration 8601 Adelphi Road College Park, MD 20740-6001 Claire Claire Bettag 1685 34th Street NW Washington DC 20007 202-625-2598 ________________________________________________________________________ Check out AOL.com today. Please post this to the LGS membership. I have not been able to send it out. The Lafayette Public Library is hosting a talk on "Genetics and Louisiana Families" Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 7:00 p.m. in the Meeting Room. Dr. John Doucet, Associate Professor of Genetics at Nicholls State University, will outline basic principles of genetics, give an overview of common misconceptions, speak on proper ways of thinking about genetic makeup and diseases in Louisiana families and tell how to locate quality information. It does not appear that he will directly address the use of genetics in genealogical research, but his talk may prove relevant, especially if there are any hereditary diseases in your family.
