part 4 10. MARIE MADELEINE4 BOUCHER (MARIN GALERAN3, JACQUES2, JEAN1) was born August 4, 1641 in Quebec City, Quebec, and died Bef. October 28, 1709 in Ste Croix, Lotbiniere, Quebec. She married LOUIS HOUDE January 12, 1653/54 in Chateau-Richer, Montmorency No. Quebec, son of NOEL HOUDE and ANNE LEFEBVRE. He was born 1617 in Manou, Chartes, Perche, France. Notes for MARIE MADELEINE BOUCHER: Marie Madeleine Boucher was 14 when she married. Notes for LOUIS HOUDE: Louis Houde arrive in New France in 1647 and worked for three years in the household of Seigneur Noel Juchereau de Chastellees. He aquired land in Saint Augustin, in Quebec City, now Grand Allee, and in the seignory of Sillery. Within two years Louis acquired new farms in Beaupre and on Ile D'Orleans. In 1658, the family was established on land with a frontage of four arpents (about 767 feet) along the river and extending inland into the island. They remained there for over 20 years and 13 of their 14 children were born there. Their family was too large for the amount of land they had, so they moved on to Sainte Croix de lotbiniere, which is above Quebec City on the south bank of the Saint Lawrence, on a huge holding of the Ursulines of Quebec. The sons all had their own holding, and some of them took surnames reflecting the characteristics of their land, for example Desrochers (stoney), Desruisseaux (with brooks), Bellefeuille (with trees). Louis Houde was successful in his business affairs, and he donated the land for the first church of Sainte Croix. Cousines, I've been wanting to tell you about my searching. The first one M.O.A.,I read about 3 Chauvin Brothers. Never in my wildest dreams think they were mine.. but as time went on, I discovered they were my direct line descendents. Daddy never told me about our Chauvins!? Granpa lived with us when I was in my mid-teens. We used to talk. He never related anything either. Mama took care of (he had cancer) Granpa until he passed. He would get Mama up at night, saying "I think some coffee make me feel better". Mama'd say, "I'll make you a fresh pot of coffee Mr. Chauvin". And Granpa say "Oh Ahlicee you so good to do dat for me". So, Mama and Granpa would have coffee together:) Then! One Christmas I traced my very own little Granma all the way back to Grand Pre. When I created my home page, I called it Grand Pre Louisianne.. never dreaming there'd be a connection to THE GRAND PRE in Nova Scotia!! My search started 'cause My Granma died when Daddy was a year old. When my Aunts would talk of her..my Daddy would have a little soft wistful smile, a faraway look in his pretty blue eyes...I wanted to find her for him:) As you may guess, I am/was a Daddys' girl:)) And all I knew, was of his telling me "we were Cajuns...and "we were run out of Nova Scotia. " We were "some of the best people on earth" and for me to "NEVER be ashamed of being a Cajun". I'm proud of my Cajun family and my Chauvin family. I learned my lesson well:) I didn't learn French 'cause my parents didn't want me to be abused later on in school. Daddy got a map and showed me where the Cajuns were, before settling in Sweet South Louisiana:) I had to stand on my tiptoes to see the map at the kitchen table. I haven't a clue how old I was..so before I could read, I knew where Nova Scotia was on a map!:) Daddy taught me to waltz by having me stand on his feet:) moi ps memories, such a sweet blessing from God:)
