I have been astonished and gratified, however, at the number of Lairds who are interested in genealogy. It may be that, as we and they dig further into the past, we may find some connections with the parents of Samuel (David Lard and ?McLaughlin) or descendants of Samuel's brother David (b. probably about 1768), who was "bound out" as a child in the Connecticut/Massachusetts area.
