    3. I've got a virtual menu of variations on the Laird name: to wit - Laird Lard Larid Leard Leird Lord Lahr Lehr Lehrer yep, it is hard to find out who is who sometimes. My GGGGgrandfather Samuel Laird was also listed as Samuel Leard on his marriage certificate. With some lines avoiding the Irish landlords and making name changes, it is a wonder any of us can find ancestors beyond 1800. We must still be in this activity for enjoyment or life isn't worthwhile. If we are after the facts then accuracy in transcription is so necessary. Otherwise we might as well use historically based fiction novels.
