I also thank Patricia for her genealogical integrity and careful research. I have worked on my Laird line (and others) since about 1960. Even though I took notes at courthouses and cemeteries very carefully, I have also relied on the research of others whom I trust. As careful as we are, mistakes in transcribing, copying, or even simple wrong assumptions can creep in. Sometimes two original sources simply disagree with each other. As others have said, it is easy to copy a mistake, send it to several people, or (now) post it on the internet - pretty soon the wrong information is all over the world. I have made mistakes by misreading original handwriting which was difficult to read (mistranscribed the name Rector as Ritchie, for example). Thank goodness we are able to compare our work with others' and either confirm or correct what we have done.
