James W. Laird; Thank you so much for your library work. A Jesse Laird was uncle to my great grandfather.There are so many possible reasons why the parents did not raise him. The simplest would be that one or both of them died. The father (a Garrison) may have been lost at war. His surname was given to the child so they must have planned to marry.
