To All: My g-g-grandfather, Archibald, settled in Newton County, Mississippi. Who his father was has been a major brick wall for me. But here is the new information I got from my 3rd cousin Tony Smith that links him to Lodowick, a Laird that many of you have links to. So this looks like I and Tony are related to those of you with Lodowick connections. Archibald and Malinda Graham's children: Robert Alexander Laird Emily Laird (married John Scott) Edward Graham Laird Susie Elizabeth Laird (this was new info, too, for me) Hiram Winfield Laird (my great-grandfather) Thomas J. Laird Franklin Palmer Laird George Andrew Laird (Tony's great-grandfather) Sarah F. Laird... (and a "new" discovery, the baby in the family) John Calhoun Laird (I've had others tell me about "J. C. Laird" but I didn't have any documentation on him (probably because he was born later than my documentation was created). So this confirms that information.) My Archibald Laird's father was Robert Laird Jr...his father -- Robert Laird Sr., who moved to Clarke County, Georgia after his stint in the military. He was with the South Carolina Patriots during the American Revolution and received a land grant in Georgia. His father: Lodowick Laird who migrated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in the mid to late 1700s. He's listed on the 1779 census records for South Carolina. Other records show he and wife Elizabeth bought land in the now-defunct Craven County, South Carolina in 1764. Archibald M. Laird who ended up in Rankin County, Mississippi, was my Archibald's uncle and a son of Lodowick. Archibald E. was son of Samuel, who also was Lodowick's son. And my Archibald was son of Robert Jr, Lodowick's grandson. So, now I need to go back and find all the emails and LFA Newsletters that talk about Lodowick/Robert Sr/Robert Jr and their relatives. I think my FamilyTreeMaker "fan" just got a WHOLE lot bigger. I would appreciate any further information from those of you out there that know details on Robert Jr, and a list of his children to see if my Archibald shows up (birth date is March 22, 1816 -- at least, that is what is on his headstone). -- Robert P.S.
