    3. I need some help. My ancestor, Samuel Laird, was born in Pennsylvania September 3, 1804. I have no real knowledge of his parentage, or town of birth. In my searching I found a family in Washinton County that might fit. I hope some of you have researched this family. John Laird and Mary Snodgrass Laird emmigrated from Donegal County, Ireland around 1800. They had sons Alexander, James, John, Jesse, Robert, and a daughter. They settled in Washington County, PA in what was called Donegal Township. John Jr married Margaret Snodgrass. Jesse married and ended up in Vermillion County, Illinois and I think maybe he moved to Iowa. James also married and had some children including a son named Samuel. I have no date of birth for Samuel except that he was the oldest. This James Laird family appears in the 1810 Census with a wife and three children. He disappears for a few years, then shows up again in Washington County in the 1840 Census. According to the "History of Guernsey County" a James Laird family appeared in Guernsey County, Ohio from Pennsylvania in 1819. This is at the same time James Albin and Barbara Hoover Albin arrived in Guernsey County with their family from Hampshire County Virginia (now Hancock County WVa.) My Samuel Laird married their daughter, Delilah Albin Secrest, in 1824. The Albin family attended Claysville Methodist Episcopal Church in Washinton County PA, as did the James Laird family. Thus, it is not inconceivable that the children of those two families played together. And, if the James Laird in Guernsey County is the same James Laird from Washington County, PA, the marriage of Samuel and Delila is not at all unusual. This is all beautiful and logical theory. But I can't prove any of the theory that my Samuel is the son of James Laird from Washington County. I hope some of you have researched the John Laird line and can help me. You can email me direct at thelairds@att.net. - Paul Laird
