    1. [LAIRD] John Laird - Washington County, PA late 1700s
    2. The John Laird in our ancestry married Lydia Wright in the 1790s. They married and lived in Peters Township, Washington County, PA. Two of their daughters, Charity Laird and Jane Laird married two Van Wye brothers. Charity Laird and Abram Van Wye [both born in Washington County in late 1790s] moved to Trumbull County, in the area of modern Niles, Ohio after they married [around 1817] part time in 1820s and permanently in 1834; as did Jane Laird and her husband James Van Wye [both born in Washington County in early 1800s, married there 1822]. [Their Uncle Charles Van Wye, who came to Washington Co., PA in 1793-4, married Jane Cameron there around 1800 + or minus, started clearing land in Trumbull County sometime after 1806 but kept his "official" residence in Washington County until around 1820, when he and most of his children permanently settled along the Mahoning River, south of Warren - seems they commuted back and forth between the two]. I have so far not been able to identify this John Laird's family of origin. The info I have had came from Van Wye and Wright records so it may well be lacking in the details on the Lairds. For the past 15 years I have been under the impression that Lydia and John Laird only had daughters, however recently, a fellow researcher has provided info that indicates they may have had male offspring as well. Any insight and leads are welcome. The recent post about James Laird in similar locations in the right time frame, with a possible brother named John, has me intrigued. Perhaps this brick wall I've faced on our John Laird will crumble yet. Gail Van Wye
