It's nice to hear that someone has some success at this. I've been trying to get even a little hint at who my gr grandfather was for a couple years now and so far no luck. His name was M.S Laird (I have no first name, could be Manuel though). I do know that he was in Truckee, CA in 1910. I estimate that he was born in about 1879 or so, in Arkansas. At that point he was married and had one daughter, Viola. Sometime around 1915-20, he divorced and his ex-wife and by this time three children moved to Arizona. M.S. stayed in California. My father saw him one time as a child, but after that, he was lost to the family. That is the total of info I have about him. If this strikes a cord with anyone, I'd sure appreciate hearing from you.
