Russell, Thank you for the very interesting post. Sometimes I am amazed at the peculair timing of things. I was just reading about Rosslyn Chapel and the St. Clair/ Sinclair family. I turned on my computer to look up Rosslyn Chapel and the Knights Templar. Then I read your post. How amazing to find that the topic is what I was seeking, and may possibly include a "Laird" connection. I wonder if any church records exist for Caithness? It would be interesting to extract and include in the LFA newsletter. I will check the various places he named to see which records I can order from the Family History Center. Sorry to once again bring up the "coat of arms" but his insight is interesting, and no one on this list has given documented "proof" that the Laird arms is a fake. Nor have they given any indication of what research they have done to come to that conclusion. So, like most genealogists who do not accept another ones work without seeing their documented proof, I will continue to believe that the "coat of arms" probably did belong to a Laird family in the very remote past, rather than it being an invention in this century. Sincerely, Patricia Laird Howard
