I am searching for any Laird links which contain, Fred Laird married to Edna Munday. I only know that Fred Laird was a Railroad Engineer, he was killed at the age of 34, ran over by a train. He and Edna had twin sons boen in 1910. One died at birth, the other was Russell. Russell became missing from his family, and was found deceased in Chicago, IL. He died in 1970. This is all I have to go on, so any help would be a blessing! Thank you for your time, Lisa Northam lnortham@sonet.net
Hi! When I had some courthouse work to do, I checked for the Laird name here in Sumner Co., Kansas. I have no reason to believe any of these people to be related to "my" Lairds from KY, but who knows, perhaps they are. Probate Records Laird, Wilbur D. minor et al Case No. 5866 Date: 11/10/24 - Probate record Laird, Zoe Mae, Case # 15549, no date - probate record Marriage license: Laird, Asenath (I think, difficult to read) #193 - marriage license. Marriages: Laird, Anna B. m'd Wright, D. Y. 9/27/1892 Bk E -98A Laird, Francis C. m'd Eades, J.R. 10/27/1892 Bk E-99 Laird, Mary L. m'd McClellan, Andrew 9/22/1880 Bk. I have appreciated the help I have been given by others here, and I will try to find all the Lairds in this county that I can, and post them here. Sherry

Thanks Russell, that sounds good to me. That's like when our daughter and her two boys were living here when the census was taken. Except that Canada has a "long form" for every fifth household and a "short form" for all others. I wonder what folks will think about that information in 150 years. (Or maybe it won't be made available to researchers at all). Daphne Russell Laird wrote: > Hi Daphne, > > Bother? No way. Glad to hear from you, and your question is one > of obvious validity. Hi Daphne, Bother? No way. Glad to hear from you, and your question is one of obvious validity. I cannot answer with 100% truth, because I don't know it, but I think that most often, when we see people with surnames other than that of the "main" family at a residence, they are usually either hired help or relatives. In the case of Ellen and Willie Lard listed in the Crabb household, I would lean toward the "relative" explanation. There is no occupation listed for Ellen (who is 21 in the census). Doesn't mean she wasn't a hired housekeeper, but the census taker who wrote the information seemed to be pretty consistent about describing someone as a "laborer" or as being involved in "farming" in other households, and in this one. Joseph Edwards, for instance, had his occupation described as "farming" in the Crabb household. Willie Lard, a 13-year-old male, has a check by his name in the "Attended School within the year" column. I think Ellen and Willie were probably an orphaned niece and nephew, or children "taken in" when a neighbor or friend Lard died. > Russell; > Sorry to bother you but, I'm "listening in" again, 'cause that's the > area where my LAIRD/GARRISON couple were some time before 02 Oct 1830, > when William GARRISON was born. Russell; Sorry to bother you but, I'm "listening in" again, 'cause that's the area where my LAIRD/GARRISON couple were some time before 02 Oct 1830, when William GARRISON was born. Were the LARDs in the CRABB household hired help or perhaps slaves? Is that information that was recorded in those days? I believe the following Lard's that were in your KY extractions are probably related to my Laird family, though I do not know yet for sure. My g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth Laird Jones Crabb. Jones, I think in Hart County, KY (her obituary states she was born there, and I just learned the courthouse burned!) and her Jones husband died shortly after she had my g-grandfather Willis Washington Jones in 1853, then she married J. Wasn't $2000 real estate a pretty good bit of land in those days?? I have Charles' will, and apparently Virginia preceded him in death, I don't have that info in front of me as I write this, it's on another paper, but I think shortly after this, and she had no will. Here are the 1850 Kentucky Laird/Lard census entries. I did these extracts, so any mistakes are mine. Found no Leard, Leird, or Leaird entries in the index, but there are entries for Lord and Land not included here because they haven't yet been inspected. Hope this helps with the KY Laird search of late. Russell - -------------------------------- Kentucky 1850 Census - -------------------------------- BALLARD Co.
