Hello, Would anyone have any Lairds in Ogden, Territory Utah, c. 1889. I have a James Harold Laird b. Feb 1888 in Brussels, ON, Canada who died in Ogden, Territory Utah Aug. 8, 1889... so about 1 1/2 yrs. His siblings born on each side of him (1887 and 1890) were also born in Brussels, so I am wondering if perhaps his parents Joseph A. Laird and Eliza Jane (BURNS) Laird were visiting family in Utah. Any Utah Lairds out there? Rheba Massey, Ontario COULSON in Ontario/UK TIBBETTS in Saskatchewan VEAL/PRICE in Wales JOURDIN/LAIRD in Ontario

For thiose researching in Alabama this should be some good news. Many counties are have their loose-leaf records filmed by the Mormon Church. Spencer http://www.al.com/news/birmingham/Nov1999/8-e264827b.html
Robert and LFA members, Finally have the October LFA Newsletter finished. I will send to Robert for posting on the LFA website after writing this short message. The November issue is finished, and I am currently proof reading for errors. Should be ready this evening. Robert, I haven't heard from you as to whether or not you want me to mail you copies of the Lodowick Lard deeds. If yes, please send me an e-mail message which includes your home address. I hope to have the requested copies ready to mail on Thursday. Sincerely, Patricia Laird Howard
I have searched high and low and not been able to find a record of the marriage of Samuel Lard to Mary W. (Hughes) Rector probably March or April, 1828. This couple lived, before and after the marriage, in Jennings Co., Ind., so could have been married in surrounding counties or even northern Kentucky. If any Laird searcher comes across this one, would you please notify me. Thank you. Sharon Seaver
Helen, Thank you for sending this info to the list. If you'd like to subscribe, let me know. Birdsell (nee Laird). They discuss his wanting to visit to see the grandchildren, so I am placing him to be in 40, 50 or 60s at that time. The address that John sent the letters from is Fawn Grove, PA. Does this help at all? Helen Frey

This is a reply to Sherry Kline. My husband's great grandfather Joab Lard had Uncles named Hezekiel (Hezekiah?) and John according to another family researcher. All were from South Carolina according to Census records. I don't know Joab's father's name. I am still trying to make a connection there. In fact I have seen his name as Joe Abner Lard and Jo Lard so I am not sure of his legal name. His last name has been spelled Lard, Leard, and finally Laird. Joab was born about 1798 and lived in Kentucky, then near St. Louis, Missouri here he married Margaret Todd abt. 1824 and had two children Melinda b. 1825 in MO and married Asaph Ashley 29 July 1846. Jonas b. 1830 in St. Ferdinand, St. Louis Co. Mo d. r February 1862 in Memphis , Tenn. ( Civil War) Joab and Margaret sold their lane in St. Ferdinand in March 1840 and went to Randolph County, Illinois. Margaret died about 1842 and in 1844 Joab married Elsey Flint in Randolph County , Illinois. The family later moved to Grant County, Wisconsin. Joab's brother John married Lydia Todd 24 June 1818 in St. Louis MO. in the St. Louis Methodist Episcopal Church. Uncle Hezekiel ( Hezekiah?) married Catherine S. Pursell in Nelson County, KY 3 January 1793, was in Jefferson Co. Ky in April 1789 and in St. Ferdinand in Sept 1797. His will was probated in Sept 1806. Catherine later married Morris James. Children of Hezekiel are Fielding who married Nancy Sullivan, and settled in Washington Co. Mo., Isaac, Lucy (Gearnsey) and Rosannah ( Ira Nash) Someone else who contacted me had Caty Pursley married Hezekiah Lard January 1793 in Bardstown, Nelson, Kentucky. I have no record of a Tabitha Lard. I don't know if this will be of any help to you. If any other Lard/Laird researcher sees any connections, I would love to hear from you. I am having trouble finding out the church that my Lairds may have belonged to. Is there some way of finding out what church the Reverend who married them was associated with? I have his name from the marriage certificate but no other clues. Is there a book out there or some other way i can find out who these Reverends were connected with? I appreciate any help you can offer. Lila Miller
We were at St Columba's Church of Scotland in London (our kirk) last Sunday. They have crests for all the Scots Counties and I took the opportunity of photographing the Caithness Crest, the Galley with the black viking Raven on the sail. I have posted this on the Caithness page of our website, as I have not been able to find the crest, so inspiring with its reference to our origins. Prince Henry's ships may have looked like this. I have also discovered music on the web, inspired by Mel Sinclair's excellent Sinclair Website, either making browsing the site more interesting or irritating. Still there is usually an "off" switch on your speakers and volume control! The URL for my project is http://ourworld.cs.com/inslaird/"! Yours aye Iain
Hello all. I'm sending this query again for my ancestor: Hezekiah/Hezakiel Lard/Laird who married Patsey Carter in 1817 in Barren County Kentucky. They had at least one daughter, Elizabeth, who married ???? Jones, had a son Willis in 1853, and she re-married after ???? Jones death to J.R.U. Crabb in 1857. According to the Census, Hezekiah was born in South Carolina! I know nothing about his family, except he was mentioned in the marriage record of Tabitha Lard, who may or may not have been his sister. Thanks! Sherry
Hi Patricia: I just got back from working on the floods in NY. In sorting through the 215 e-mails in my mailbox I picked up on the name "Lodowick" and thought I 'd better put in my request for the information. I will also pull out any membership requests for LFA and will give you an update on our numbers. This has been a wild and busy year for us and there doesn't seem to be any let-up yet. Many thanks! Carolyn Laird
Hello Everyone, While searching through deed books A (1808-1809), and B, (1809-1811) for Jones County, Georgia, I ran across four deeds for Lodowick Lard. I am placing the entire content of the deeds in the November LFA Newsletter. Three of the deeds mention that he is a resident of Jones County, Georgia. The last deed dated 26 May 1810 mentions that he is a resident of Tatnall County, Georgia. I will send copies of the deeds to any descendant of Lodowick Laird. Simply send me a request, along with your name and address. Sincerely, Patricia Laird Howard
According to the Illinois State Archives at http://www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/marrcopy.html, A Leota Alice Laird married James H Johnson in Johnson, County IL on September 12, 1894. Laird, great-great-great-grandson of James A. Laird, and great-great-great-great-grandson of Samuel W.
