Mansfield Female College (MFC) was a two-year institution of higher education in Mansfield, LA (DeSoto Parish, northwestern) founded in the late 1840's (and the first college for women west of the Mississippi River). From 1855 until MFC was closed in 1930 it was one of the colleges under the stewardship of the Louisiana Methodist Conference. The majority of its students came from DeSoto and surrounding parishes, but there was a significant minority from out of state, in particular young ladies from Methodist families, which is why this message is being cross-posted to lists other than LADeSoto-L (my apologies for any duplicates you may receive). Thanks to my recent discovery of a copy of the 1929-30 MFC Catalogue, I'm now able to offer a comprehensive (but not absolutely complete) list of grads and alumnae. See URL's below. Corrections and additions are welcome and appreciated. I'll soon be uploading information about the faculty, staff, curricumlum, and a list of some students who attended the model (high) school that MFC operated.
