Surnames: Briggs Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DCB.2ACE/116 Message Board Post: In 1850, my ancestor, Zara Briggs, was listed in the East Baton Rogue census as a prisoner, in jail for stealing a horse. Does anyone know what prison this would have been (state, county, etc.?). If you look at the census, the list of prisoners is pretty long. Does anyone know if there are records from that time period that would indicate what happened to Zara? I know that Zara was in Arkansas in 1840 and that some of his older children settled in Catahoula Parish. I would just like to know if he was hanged, let out of jail, died, etc. This is the last time I find him anywhere, so I sort of assume the worst. Any help or pointers for researching this area would be appreciated.
