Hello fellow genealogists, Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 10 at the office of the Washington Parish Clerk of Court, Johnny D. Crain. Mr. Crain will be the guest speaker. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm in the Courthouse office in Franklinton. We will have the opportunity to have a :hands on: meeting as we browse through records dating back to 1897. Mr. Crain will explain the types of records located in his office and tell us how to use and find them. These consist of land records, mortgages, wills, civil and criminal documents, and marriage records. Several of the staff members of the Clerk of Court office will be there to assist us. Also to be included in his presentation is the new birth certificate system and the state requirements regarding the issuing of birth information. Information on application for passports will be included, too. If you need help using any of these types of records in your family history research, this is a meeting that you will not want to miss. This is intended to help beginners as well as other family history enthusiasts. Both members and nonmembers are invited to attend. Barbara
