Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DCB.2ACE/133 Message Board Post: Milton John Picou (February 26, 1894 - December 28, 1969) was one of two sons born to Henry John/Jean Picou and Blanche Ruth Picou, both believed to be from Louisiana. The other son was Alphonse/Alfonse. The brothers are believed to have been born in Louisiana but to have been raised in an orphanage in Huntsville, Alabama. Milton John migrated to the Northeast living first in New York, and then in Pennsylvania, where he died in 1969. Family lore has it that brother Alphonse/Alfonse stayed in the south and worked as a baker, possibly being affiliated with the Picou Bakery in New Orleans. I am in search of any and all records of Henry John/Jean Picou and his family, and any and all records of Blanche Ruth (Picou). I am the recent widow of John Harvey Picou (May 12, 1925 - June 13, 2001). He was the only child/son of Milton John Picou (the brother who lived in New York/Pennsylvania) and Esther Burrill Picou.

Classification: Cemetery Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DCB.2ACE/132 Message Board Post: While on a summer research trip to Baton Rouge, I encountered a ledger book that provides documentation on the first 132 recorded burials in Jewish Cemetery, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I photocopied the pages in the book, and I would be delighted to provide a lookup service for these records. Until the 1940s, the only Jewish house of worship in Baton Rouge was Temple Beth Israel (original known as Congregation Shaari Chesed), and this congregation founded the cemetery (as Hebrew Burial Ground) and maintains it to this day. Let me know if I can help, --David Mayer
HI: I'm researching my grandmother, who was born in Zachery in 1905. I would like to know whether birth certificates were issued back then, particularly for African Americans. Thanks for the info! Kberry

It looks like he may have purchased the land in 1776, although I'm still trying to decipher the numbers and language in this document. The land was about a mile and a half north of "the town of Baton Rouge." Is anyone aware of this John Baily in the late 1700's? Thanks, Alexia
