I am researching the below names: Pruyn Robert Legget Pruyn, born 17 March 1832 was my great great grandfather, I have a great deal of information on him. However, his son, and my great grandfather, Robert Henry Pruyn, born Sept 1861 appears to have died in Carlsbad , New Mexico. I have been able to find out little about him. Also, Robert Leggett's brother, Girardar, appears to have come to Baton Rouge with his wife also. Mary, his with is listed in the 1870 census as head of household, living with 5 children. In the 1880 census, one son George, is listed with wife, Eudora, as a seperate household and Mary is still listed with 4 children. In 1900, George, Frank, Mary and Charles are all living with mother, Mary, now 70 yrs. My Pruyn relatives seem unaware of this branch of the family. Anyone know about these relatives and if any still survive ? Fallon Patrick Fallon, born Gallway, Ireland, May 1830 was My great grandfather.Came with brother Peter, both served in the Union Army during the civil war. Peter has been lost track of on discharge from the army, but Patrick settled in Baton Rouge. His second wife Bridgett Costello, bore him a daughter , Katye Fallon Pruyn who was my grandmother. Searching information about Patrick's family in Ireland- Father Daniel, mother Mary Horton. Also Bridgett had been married before to Daniel Geary. Robert E.Geary and Alice Rosa Geary are listed on the 1880 census as son and daughter of Patrick. Are any Gearys out there researching Patrick? Thanks, Steve Pruyn- scpruyn@ pacbell.net

The info. I had before is that Louisiana was founded in 1702 by Lemoyne d'Iberville and a group of Canadians among them there was a Guillaume Boutin. I did not know that other Boutins were in the area of Baton Rouge at that time. Could you give me some info on these families of Boutin in Baton Rouge. Thanks
As of today, we (Washington Parish Library) have the 1930 La. Population Census. This census will be housed in Franklinton. We also have the 1930 Ms. Population Census, which will be housed in Bogalusa. I should be finished with them by Monday, so that patrons may come and look at them. This is great news, and I wanted you all to know. Bonnie

This is from Stiles and Adams, The History of Ancient Wethersfield, CT, p. 642. I have not connected him to my family, but the names fit. Thomas Booker BARNETT, who moved to MS in 1838, m. Margaret NORWOOD and had at least two sons, Joseph H. and Benjamin. According to a respected East Baton Rouge genealogist, there was a third son. Joseph (1830-1881) m. Mary Elizabeth SMITH (1839-1924) in 1869 and they had three children, including William Dortch "Willie" BARNETT (1870-1962). The family lived in The Plains/Zachary area of East Baton Rouge Parish. I am very interested in sharing information with BARNETT descendants.

My mother was Mary Elizabeth Barnett, daughter of Thomas L. Barnett and Emily Louisa Shaffet Barnett of Zachary, LA (East Baton Rouge Parish). Their other children were Eula Barnett (Zachary), Louise Barnett Batte (Baton Rouge and Zachary), and Lucy Barnett Doiron (Chattanooga, TN) - all deceased. My mother married Baynard Turpin, Jr. of MerRouge, LA. Thomas Barnett had a brother Wille Dortch Barnett (Zachary) and a sister Mary Ida Barnett. I have no information on her except that she, and all of the others are buried in the Young Family Cemetery in Plains, LA (near the Plains Presbyterian Church). It is possible that the persons you are looking for are also buried in that cemetery. My mother still lives in Baton Rouge and is 88 years old. She gave me some information that Eula Barnett had compiled and it also lists names such as Rachel Krumholt, Benjamin Luther Smith, Mary Ann Dortch, Mary Elizabeth Smith. Rhoda Jane Allen, daughter of Elizabeth Allen 2 children: b. 1846 Marghana Rheams (married SS Dixon) b. 1848 Richardson Allen Rheams (married Martha Dixon) Only public record found is the Livingston Parish Mortality Schedule for 1850 saying he died in July, 1850 after being sick with pneumonia for 6 days at age 26 years. Perhaps, according other family records, may have been a junior, but I tend to believe this may not have been given name, but nickname or aka name. P. Richards $7.50 St. Helena World War I veterans $18.00 The latest publication of the St. Helena Historical Association, Inc. is St. Helena Remembers Her World War I Veterans. This all came about when Inez Tate located a book pertaining to the World War I veterans of St. Helena Parish in the Clerk of Court's office. It was a summary of the discharged, listed three on each page and in alphabetical order. A contact made with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Baton Rouge produced little information. The officer was familiar with the book and stated that until 1987, these books were in all parishes in Louisiana. At that time, they were turned over to the Louisiana State Archives for safekeeping. He did not know the origin of the books, and the Louisiana State Archives had no information regarding the origin of them either. Some veterans took their discharge papers to the Clerk of Court, and copies were made and retained there. A review of the St. Helena Cemetery reveals there were World War I veterans buried in the various cemeteries who were not included in the book of discharges nor was a copy of their discharge filed in the Clerk of Court's office. The book includes interesting information on the veterans' service time. Noted in this publication are the addresses of the little post offices no longer in existence. Also included are interesting stories and data on the veterans. The price of this soft-cover book is $18.00, postpaid. Order directly from St. Helena Historical Association, 6370 La. 43, Montpelier, LA 70422-8227. The cover picture shows the type of uniform worn by the doughboys.
