Behind the Scenes at Mile Branch Settlement Even if you have visited Mile Branch Settlement on the Washington Parish Fairgrounds many times, you will have a chance to learn some "behind the scenes" information. The speaker will be Betty Rose Pigott Hunt of Bogalusa. Betty Rose has served with the Washington Parish Fair Association for many years. At present, she still serves on the fair board. Through the years, her jobs have been many. In 1987, she served as fair president. One year, she was catalog honoree. She was interested in Mile Branch Settlement on the fairgrounds, from its inception, but when the Pigott cabin was moved into the settlement in 1982, her interest increased tremendously. She felt that this cabin was part of her. It actually had served as home for her grandparents. Her father was born in that house. Betty Rose began to devote a lot of her time to Mile Branch Settlement at that time. At the present, she serves as its overall chairman which oversees a myriad of Mile Branch committees. Her "Behind the Scenes" program has been planned for anyone interested in learning more about our parish’s look into local history. The program is being sponsored by the Washington Parish Genealogy and History Society. Fran Harry, President, welcomes both members and nonmembers to attend. This meeting is planned for 5:30 pm on Tuesday, May 14, 2002. Meet at the entrance to Mile Branch. Bring a lawn chair to use as you sit and enjoy the meeting and refreshments. Remember, you do not have to be a member to attend.
Apologize for not including the subject line in my earlier message -- I am researching the name BODLEY and WOOD. Homer S. Bodley and his wife Lydia (Wood) Bodley who were in East Baton Rouge Parish from 1887-1899. Homer was in charge of WOOD, BODLEY and CO., which was a wholesale and retail coal business. It was on the corner of Convention and Front Street in Baton Rouge. Coal was supplied to steamboats and plantations. Six of Homer and Lydia's children were born while they were in Baton Rouge. Children -- Ellison (August 1887), Edith (March 1892), Samuel (March 1894), Susannah (August 1895), Homer (March 1898), and John (June 1900). I feel certain the Bodley family was part of the Methodist Church in East Baton Rouge. Any suggestions on where to find information on the WOOD, BODLEY and CO. business? Would the church have christening records for the children? Their home was located at 205 W. Lafayette Street. Any suggestions for following up on this family would be much appreciated. Thank you so much. ebday@silcom.com

He was my maternal grandfather's (Joseph Isnaga Juge) brother. Their parents, Joseph Antoine Juge and Marie Alice Porche, had 7 children. 2 were deceased before 1940 leaving 5 living at that time. 3 went to CA and my grandfather, Joseph Isnaga, remained in New Orleans where he was living and Charles Hilaire remained in Baton Rouge where he was living. Joseph Isnaga died in 1951. I do not remember anyone ever mentioning a brother of my grandfather living in Baton Rouge. I was just curious as to his family and where they are now. I have no names for a spouse or children. If you have this info. I would appreciate having it.
