    1. [LAEASTBA] Meeting:
    2. Hello fellow genealogists, Our next meeting will be held Tuesday, September 10 at the office of the Washington Parish Clerk of Court, Johnny D. Crain. Mr. Crain will be the guest speaker. The meeting will begin at 5:30 pm in the Courthouse office in Franklinton. We will have the opportunity to have a :hands on: meeting as we browse through records dating back to 1897. Mr. Crain will explain the types of records located in his office and tell us how to use and find them. These consist of land records, mortgages, wills, civil and criminal documents, and marriage records. Several of the staff members of the Clerk of Court office will be there to assist us. Also to be included in his presentation is the new birth certificate system and the state requirements regarding the issuing of birth information. Information on application for passports will be included, too. If you need help using any of these types of records in your family history research, this is a meeting that you will not want to miss. This is intended to help beginners as well as other family history enthusiasts. Both members and nonmembers are invited to attend. Barbara

    1. [LAEASTBA] Annie MARSHALL / J W CARRIGAN / Elnathan BOYNTON Baton Rouge 1864
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: MARSHALL, CARRIGAN, BOYNTON, MOORE, DAWE, CARSON, HENRY, SOWER, WRIGHT, O’DONNELL, AUSTIN, HALLIGAN, JONES, MOULDER, CHATHAM, POSTON, WILLIS, ROSS, McGILL Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DCB.2ACE/181 Message Board Post: Seeking information about and/on descendants of Annie Elizabeth MARSHALL, who lived in Baton Rouge ca 1850-1864, and was married to first J. W. CARRIGAN of Baton Rouge, and then to Elnathan BOYNTON of New Lisbon WI. Annie MARSHALL was born 1830 in Stevensburg VA, daughter of Charles Louis MARSHALL (1808-?) and Catherine ROSS (1812-1866). Her paternal grandparents were John MARSHALL and Elizabeth McGILL of Augusta GA. In 1864, Annie already had at least three children by J. W. CARRIGAN (ca 1815-?), a Baton Rouge lawyer who was a native of New York. These were: John Marshall CARRIGAN (1854-1930), Charles W. CARRIGAN (ca 1858-?), and Maude CARRIGAN (ca 1861-1894). Elnathan BOYNTON was born 1842 in New Hampshire, to Abel BOYNTON and Syrena LAWRENCE, and moved with his family to New Lisbon (Juneau County) WI. He served in the 4th Wisconsin Cavalry, and was posted to Louisiana. In 1864 he married Annie MARSHALL Carrigan, possibly in Baton Rouge. Elnathan & Annie returned to Wisconsin, along with some or all of Annie’s CARRIGAN children, and during the period 1865-1875 had four of their own: Sarah Lorena BOYNTON, Halbert Elnathan BOYNTON, Arthur Stillwell BOYNTON, and Roberta Lee (Berta) BOYNTON. The family moved to Atlanta GA ca 1880, where by 1890 Elnathan was a contractor and Annie was proprietress of Yosemite Nursery. Elnathan died in 1911, and Annie in 1928. Both are buried in Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, along with Maude CARRIGAN. Surnames of descendants of Annie and J. W. CARRIGAN may include MOORE, DAWE, CARSON, and HENRY. Surnames of descendants of Annie and Elnathan BOYNTON may include SOWER, WRIGHT, O’DONNELL, AUSTIN, HALLIGAN, JONES, MOULDER, and CHATHAM. I am especially interested in the circumstances of the marriage of Elnathan BOYNTON and Annie MARSHALL, which is believed to have occurred on 05 Feb 1864. It was somewhat unusual, to say the least, for a Southern woman of 33, with three or more children, to marry a Union soldier of 21, while the war was not yet over. Neither Juneau County WI nor East Baton Rouge Parish has a record of the marriage. I am also interested in tracing several of Annie MARSHALL’s nephews and nieces, including Walter MARSHALL, Eveline MARSHALL and Virginia MARSHALL (Mrs. Edward A. WILLIS), all of New Orleans, and Mrs. Julius A. POSTON (first name unknown), of Natchez MS.

    2. Tickfaw State Park to host Native American Day August 28, 2002 SPRINGFIELD - Tickfaw State Park near Springfield will host its first Native American Day, park officials said. The event will be held Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Entrance fees will be waived for this event, they said. Visitors are invited to experience the beauty and grandeur of traditional tribal ways of life, said Julie Hutzler, interpretive ranger. Intertribal dances will be performed by the Bayou Healers Youth Council and accompanied by Southern Connection on drums. Traditional Native American fare and craft items will be available to all. "This day has been set aside to welcome Native Americans from the Louisiana area to celebrate their cultural heritage. It will be fun and educational experience for the entire family," she said. Tickfaw State Park is a 1,200-acre recreational park located along three miles of the Tickfaw River, 32 miles eat of Baton Rouge and south of Interstate 12. The park offers diverse recreational activities and nature-based educational programs, Hutzler said. Standard admission to the park is $2 per vehicle with up to four people, and 50 cents for each additional person. The park is open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

    1. [LAEASTBA] HOGUE and SULLIVAN families
    2. Martha Hardcastle Guthrie
    3. I know that Alexander HOGUE was one of the founders of Denham Springs and that his daughter Mercy, married William DENHAM in 1828. My gg grandmother was a Mary HOGUE (although HOGANis on her tombstone) who was born Dec. 15, 1805 and died Oct. 18, 1877. She is buried at the Shanks Cemetery off Greenwell Springs Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. She married Daniel SULLIVAN about 1829 and they had 10 children. I would like to know if maybe Mary and Alexander and Mercy are connected. This Daniel is the brother of both Michael and Patrick SULLIVAN, both of whom were Livingston Parish residents, although Patrick moved to EBR Parish and died there. The Sullivan brothers were born in Ireland, supposedly County Wexford. If anyone is researching these families I would love to talk to them and share information. Martha Hardcastle Guthrie
