Darlington Dist. SC 1840) was married first to Martha Catherine Byrd (b. Darlington Dist. SC 1840). They both migtrated to DeSoto Parish around the time of the civil war. John D. DeWitt was briefly married to Martha Pugh after the death of his first wife in 1900. John D. DeWitt died around 1906-8 (sources vary). John D. DeWitt's parents were Jane Byrd and Samuel Douthit DeWitt, who also migrated to DeSoto Parish in the family group. (John and Martha Catherine were first cousins, I think.)
