As you know, Edward Eason has been listed as being buried at "LANAN" cemetary. I have hunted to no avail, but did see an article by Carl Dilbeck on the Sabine site about the town of Florien. Part of Florien was made up of an area called the Lanana Grant. I will check with relatives in area to see if their is any unmapped cemetaries in Florien area. Bill Hardy

I am very much interest in the location of the grave of Edward Farrell & wife Sarah Jane wrinkles. Please reply to phk968@aol.com. Red Peters
Just read your message about Sarah Jane Wrinkles which you sent toRed Peters in July 2000. Sorry to rehash old material. My wife is Patsy Eason from Many, LA., and Edward Farrell and Sarah Jane Wrinkle are her GG father and GG mother. We have info about their deaths in Negreet, and Pleasant Hill, respectively, but unsure. Have a Abram David Wrinkle listed as GGG father, died 3 Aug 1844. Seems we have missed a generation here. Also have Richard Farrell listed as father of Edward. Would appreciate any help with sources and information Easons, Farrells & Wrinkles Thanks Very much. Would like to help with any expense that might be incurred. Bill Hardy

The land description on our Lease matched the one found on the BLM site for Jeremiah Pyle in DeSoto Parish, LA. I did it by entering the description and County, State only, I had no idea what name would be brought up, I had no record for a Jeremiah. The only (questionable) family history I have on this says that Sarah Ann was the daughter of Peter Pyle, but that has been ruled out by descendants of that Line with very good documentation, so I was happy to learn of a new name as a possibility. Don't confuse this Land thing, I did not say she owned that land; Her descendants were part ;of an Oil and Gas Lease on that land, with an R.L. Pyle of Caddo Parish, and a ( Mrs Cordie L Pyle, Registar Et Al). I do not know why my family was contacted and received payments (amount unknown) on this land or why this Lease was made with them, I am beginning to fear there may have been a mistake in identity, (they thinking our Sarah Ann was Peter Pyle's daughter)? The Only proof I have of Sarah Ann's maiden name are death certificates for 2 of her children, and handwritten notes by my Grandfather giving the name (Pyle) as that of his Maternal Grandmother. I have not found a marriage record, nor have I found any other census for the Thomas & Sarah White Family, 1850 or 60. I have thought of all the issues you raise, and agree that it is a (puzzle/mystery). My Mother even had an attorney investigate it in 1985, when she was settling my Grandfather's Estate and wrote to the Love Petroleum Co., in Jackson, MS with no results that I have been able to find. Sure hope someone recognizes something that can help. Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick >

I am still trying to find out something about Family of my GGGrandmother Sarah Ann (Pyle) White, b. abt 1830-35 in GA, d. abt 1873-75 in Van Zandt, Co., TX I would like to contact descendants or anyone with knowledge of the Jeremiah Pyle that was issued Land Patents in DeSoto Parish, LA in 1860 and again 1899. My family, descendants of Sarah Ann (Pyle) White were part of; as heirs to an Oil and Gas Lease in DeSoto Parish, LA, dated 1950. The description of the land in that Lease was the same as the Land Patented to Jeremiah Pyle, dated 1860 as shown on BLM records. Names mentioned in the Lease were (R L Pyle) and (Cordie L. Pyle, Register, Et Al) and (Cleve Love). Any help much appreciated. Elnora Frances Cook-Wyrick

As some of you may already know, the entire GenConnect message board database was merged last week with the message board system at Rootsweb's commercial partner Ancestry.com. A discourse on the advantages/disadvantages (and there are both) of this change is beyond the scope of this list. More information, as well as the links (sometimes one works, sometimes the other - I assume the 'glitches' will be resolved soon) to the new location of the 675 messages posted to the old DeSoto GenConnect query board, are on the DeSoto query page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ladesoto/query.htm Judy
Moved from Old Texas, AL to Wallace, LA in 1888. Daily Sentinel Nacogdoches, TX, Thursday, October 25 1917 A MELROSE CITIZEN ACCIDENTALLY KILLED Team Hitched to Peanut Picker Ran Away and Threw Him Off Crushing His Head and Leg. From the undertaking department of Casob, Monk, & Co., who prepared the body for burial. The Sentinel gets the information of a horrible accident in the Melrose community in which a good citizen lost his life in a run-away accident yesterday afternoon. The particulars as best they can be obtained, are about as follows: Mr. D. N. Wilkerson [sic] a well known citizen of the community, was riding on a peanut picker, and when between the Thomas place and J. W. Garrett's, the team became frightened while going down an incline and ran away, throwing Mr. Wilkerson [sic] out, and in the fall his head and one of his lower limbs was crushed between one of the wheels of the machine and a tree. It is presumed that the team was frightened with the rattle or fall of some cans being carried on the picker. Mr. Wilkerson [sic] lived less than an hour. The deceased is survived by his widow, five daughters, and six sons. He was a member of the Baptist church, and those who know him say that he was a good christian [sic] man and a good citizen, well liked by the people of the community in which he resided. The funeral service will be held at the cemetery at Melrose at 2:30 this afternoon, and will be conducted by Rev. Gentry of Rusk. The whole community has been saddened with the deplorable accident, and all business and work in the community will be suspended this afternoon that people may turn out to the funeral service end of obituary "If I had it to do over again I would."
6/15/01 I'd like to contact Mr. Ross Patrick, who provided some photos of Keatchie College that are on the DeSoto Web Site. The e-mail that was given there does not work. If Mr. Patrick sees this, please e-mail me; if anyone else is in touch with him, can you let me know his present e-mail? Keatchie history is a particular interest of mine. Thanks very much. DeSoto Parish researchers - I've uploaded at the DeSoto Parish CW page a photo taken about 1900 of 40+ members of Camp Mouton, #41, Mansfield, United Confederate Veterans. The same photo is reproduced in Slawson's 1967 History of DeSoto Parish with row numbers and names, but it's extremely difficult to tell in which direction the rows are supposed to run, and whether the names read right to left, etc. The photo can be viewed at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ladesoto/csa.htm The names given are below, and are also shown on the page.
