Elizabeth was from Minden, LA and was married in 1868! My mother said she had black hair which was always disputed in our family to be "black" hair. Also, my grandfather - her son was 1/4 native american - we are thinking that perhaps she was an african woman who had native ancestry. I have checked the Dawes Rolls, and have looked in the black ancestry files. Any info would be great - we would love to find her. She married on William Henry Bates, 1868 - this all we have on her.
