    3. The Herbert W. Ford Museum was named because it was founded by Herbert Ford himself. He began collecting items at a young age which he used to fill a rail car that was located behind his house, I believe. The need to expand forced him to move the items into the old Claiborne Creamery Building which was torn down to build the new parish jail in the 1970s. At that time, Dorace Maritzky donated the present building, which is the old Hotel Claiborne that dates back to about 1890. It is located on the south side of the downtown square across from the antebellum Courthouse that dates back to 1861. The museum is now run by a board and is a remarkable museum for a town this size, with multi-level floors. You can find more about the museum and a story I wrote for the newspaper at the website www.claiborneone.org. The phone number to the Ford Museum in (318) 927-9190. It is open M-W-F. I am looking for my great grandmother, Katie Ford, who married John Robert Chester on Sept. 30, 1893, in Webster parish. That is all the information I have on Katie and I am wondering if perhaps she was connected to the Ford family in Claiborne parish since it is so close to Webster parish. If anyone has information on the Ford museum or that Ford family, I would appreciate hearing from you.
